I have very high confidence in the mets. Its really difficult to know for sure whats gonna happen with this system though.

Extratropical low, at most. I just don't see this developing as it currently stands.
As inaugural member here, I just have to say I agree that the tone of this board has changed for the worse this year. When we started in Oct 2002, we were one big happy family with a few exceptions. Most of us were fleeing this very same type of atmosphere. With all of the wonderful efforts seen here (great input from pros and amateurs alike, hunting tirelessly for victims of our recent hurricanes, etc.) it's a shame that the rudeness stands out so strongly. (This is not in response to any particular post or poster).
While it is refreshing to have so many younger weather enthusiasts, I am always appalled when a 14-16 year old (or anyone) corrects or argues with a ProMet. If I had put the time and effort into getting the education the Mets have, I certainly would go elsewhere. It would be a shame to lose their expertise but that is the direction I see us moving.
Also, I know this isn't practical but I also know I'm not alone: I think that the number of posts a person can make in one day should be limited. There are certain members who monopolize the board either in an effort to get attention or to increase their number of posts. This is not productive and causes the rest of us to wade through senseless posts to try to find the facts.
OK. I realize that this will not be a popular post with many and I will now step down from my soapbox but some of these things just HAD to be said.

The above in no way reflects on the wonderful Admins and Mods. You have my admiration for a job well done with no compensation and little reward. You guys rock!
Thank you for the great post, canelaw. You always say the right things and it's pleasure to be a co-member with you and many others.

I respect your post....however, I do disagree with some of your logic.
If people vote against pro's decisions on intensity here is it really a big deal? Isn't that what the topic was made for? I suppose you mean IN GENERAL and not specifically this topic, which is cool.
But if so why even bring that here? I don't understand.
And with that I step down with all hopes of avoiding confrontation.

No confrontation and perhaps this was the wrong forum. For THAT I apologize. I have no problem with this poll and people's opinions-after all they are mostly guesses. It is the confrontational tone that this board has taken on in general. I'm a lot older than most and have been around weather boards for years but would never speak down to a person expressing their educated opinion after they have studied meteorology for years and do forecasting for a living.
Once again, wrong forum. Sorry.

Air Force Met -- Apparently you did not read the above follow-up post. Rudeness on this forum is reaching new heights lately.
Did you NOT see the smiley emoticon? Maybe next time I won't bother to put it in so that you won't know for sure if I was kidding you or not. And no...I did not read it...I don't read the whole thread before I post a comment. If I see something that needs commenting on...I do it then.
As far as reaching new heights...I think a lot of it has to do with people getting hyper sensative and turning every blob into a cat 5. It gets a little frustrating on this end too. There is probably a happy medium...people like me can be a little more tolerant...and others could refrain from being so sensational...thus provoking people like me.

I vote Extra Tropical Low.
And as for any criticism towards Air Force Met, he was kidding.
As far as this observer is concerned, AFM provides some of the best insight into his thinking on foreacsts and I read EVERY one of his posts carefully as he takes the time to explain what he thinks and why.
Some Pros make quick comments, all are appreciated; but then don't explain why they are forecasting what they are foreacsting.
AFM always provides his reasoning and has a wealth of knowledge that we should encourage!
Plus, when he sees something wrong, he notes it and sometimes takes the sarcastic kids to the woodshed, which I especially enjoy!!!!

I do admire your literate response and I've NEVER quarreled with your weather observations. That said, I've also never turned blobs into Cat 5's. If I had a nickel for every "sensational" post made by members I'd be wealthy. Note the SMILE

AFM.. I do see your point and your right people will get excited about every blob and will say Andrew and Katrina started out this way about every blob but then again this isn't the Tropical analysis forum its the talkin tropics forum and its to be expected to see people get overly excited about things in here. Like you said I guess there is a happy medium someplace:):)

I think this would all be easily solved if there was an optional ignore capability in this forum. I know the people I respect and it would be great to screen out the obvious attention-seekers, chicken littles and people I disagree with.
I hope the mods can look into adding this to the forum software capabiliities. I love this place and I do think policing the irresponsible posters is important. I'm glad the moderators do that and I think they do a great job of it.

You are already wrong--the storm is practically on top of Florida now--we're getting rain and wind from it, and it won't have much of a chance to organize, as the leading edge is already hitting the coast of Florida. Any organization would be in the Gulf--look at the Miami radar and you will see that we're already being affected by the entity (whatever it is). So, there's no 36 hour interval for something that's here already.
