I bet that is what your manager means about "lacking leadership skills". You were hired for ONE thing: to work! I, personally, avoid chit-chat with co-workers. My sole concern is the customer! ;)

It drives me bananas (no pun attended though I work in a grocery store) when my co-workers chat with each other about stuff that has NOTHING to do with the job at hand. :grr: :grr: Those customers are the ones paying my co-workers' and my paycheck. Why don't we serve them without unnecessary chatter!

Back in May we had a survey called "Grass Roots"..

Well.. starting tomorrow.. there will be about 7 meetings in a 1 week period {for no more than 25 associates at a time}.. to discuss the results of the survey and how we can improve on the store..

I've been told.. Every year is the same thing lol.. The meetings start calm, then eventually turn into shouting matches lol..

Plus this years' might be interesting because from what I heard.. Most of my fellow associates don't exactly like our new store manager and bashed him left and right..

I have 3 chances to go to a Grass roots meeting tomorrow.. at 9 am.. Noon, and 3 pm.. I plan on being 1 of the 25 at the 9 am meeting..

Maybe I'll let ya'll know how it went

There's Wal-Mart for you! Associates disliking (put nicely) managers is very typical of Wal-Mart. May I suggest this website!

Brian,

I didn't like my maintenance boss at a Sleep Inn where I worked either...guess that's typical of associates at all Sleep Inns, too. :P

Today.. {9/19} I just wanted to announce that God willing.. I am now just 26 days from celebrating my 1st yr with Wal Mart..

The countdown is actually kinda exciting. I'm happy I'm this close.. But also praying that I don't screw up lol..

In other news.. Well.. you may have read the story about Eileen lol.. But there are 2 other stories regarding the opposite sex going on.

1st.. there's the infamous Teresa lol. NO.. I am not trying to bring up bad blood or stir up an old locked up forum.. But.. I just find something kinda funny. This past Friday. She happened to sit across from me at the break room when we both happened to be on lunches. She didn't say a word to me, and I didn't say a word to her likewise. It was complete silence for almost a 1/2 hour

and 2nd.. NO.. I don't have a crush on anybody AGAIN.. but there are some rumors beginning to spread about a young 21 yr old named Jillian. The rumors are that I like this Jillian. While I do believe she's attractive and all that.. I can honestly say as nice as a relationship would be.. I do NOT want it right now.

Ok.. enough said lol

I had a good day at work today despite showing up almost an hour late lol..

After dealing with 1 of my other CP's thinking he was on a power trip lol.. My day went much smoother.

It all went smooth and then I went to have a talk with my store manager {Mr. Gene}. Normally I wouldn't use his name, but this is a good thing..

I started talking to him about a fear I have every once in a while. I have a fear that 1 day I'll walk into work and either him or another manager is gonna fire me. I don't know why but that's a fear sometimes.

He simply stated. "Let me calm those fears for you.. That would never happened, You would have to go through the entire coaching, D-day process 1st, and then we'd have to consider it".. "Plus.. You're well liked by everyone in the store here. If I {or any other manager} were to fire you.. Do you know how much flack we would take for doing so..? It would probably lower the entire stores' morale because we'd let a good kid like you go.. Don't worry.. keep working because you try way too hard"

We continued conversating about different things, and I told him that I thought he was a good store boss. I really like having him as a manager, There's a lot of people in my store that have different opinions, but he's a good man. No complaints from here.

Countdown to anniversary: 3 weeks!

It was looted twice. They caught the guy the second time.

We lost everything that was in the coolers and freezers because we lost power for a week. They stored all the food in trailers that we normally use to store layaways. And when they opened it. PEEEYOOOO!!!!!!!! They had to get some company to dispose of of. When Rita struck they lost power for one day.

Even now it's still crazy at the store. We close at 8pm because we are WAY understaffed. A lot of people didnt come back, especially 3 assistants.

I have a lot to report this time.

#1: My anniversary of my 1st year, and my next raise up to $7.60 an hour is 2 weeks from today. I'm getting excited as I count down the days, and still praying that I don't screw up even though I know I'm not going too.

#2: I am currently the process of writing a book. More like a long drawn out story. I call it "Behind the Squiggly, Inside the Walls and Under the Roof of 2881". I will be writing the story about my 1st year at Wal Mart. I will write about the good things, and I have already told everyone including management, I will not be afraid to write about the occasional bad things too.

#3: Kittens, Kittens and More Kittens: I had an interesting story that developed between around 9-10:30 am yesterday. I happened to be pushing a row of carts on our grocery side, when I happened to hear some squealing coming from inside somebody's car. So, I stopped for a second. and walked over to a car parked in a handicap space. It turns out.. There was a mama cat and her baby kitten BOTH found a way up the persons' car and were under the hood. 2 fellow associates {including the 1 who owned the car} came out and helped get the 1st kitty out. When we got the Mama out, the baby ran. It turns out 10 mins later.. soon enough.. The baby had gone right back up and under the hood of that same car. Thank GOD this was an associates car, because If it would have been a customer, something terrible could have happened to the kitties. We captured the 2nd one, and Animal Control came and got them to take them to the pound. There are now 3 associates at my job who want the kittens.

#4: Electronically Sound: I have once AGAIN applied for an opening. This time as an electronics associate. I know so much about Electronics that it's not funny. There are 3 people leaving our electronics dept in the next 2 weeks. 1 of our managers {who loves me to death for how hard I work} has told me "If you don't get the position.. DEMAND that they tell you why not". Because with all these rejections I've had, Nobody has told me why. They have said "Keep on trying, you'll eventually get something". This manager also said.. "If you don't like that mgrs' answer, go to Gene {store manager} and if Genes' answer still doesn't suit you, Go see the District Mgr if you want" {The DM actually has his office in our building}

Basically, that's what going on..

You want to be promoted to management someday? Telling your supervisors that you're going to write bad things about them is not the way to go.

Um.. I did not say I was writing bad things about management.. I said bad things I have experienced in year 1. That doesn't necessarily include management..

Sorry, but this implies that you're going to write about management, or at least things happening at the store that you don't like, which may reflect poorly on management. Unless you have something else in mind, this doesn't sound like a very good career move.

Seriously, I would not do it. You realize you may hafta go thru Home Office before you publish it.

Yes I would give serious thought to reconsidering the book idea. And if anyone is against criticism, well when Josephine96 gets an agent and submits it to a publishing house, it'd be best to get used to it now. You can write stories about your work, and change the names to protect the innocent, but (a.) I don't think you'd be an objective writer of any conflicts you were part of and (b.) you'd probably have to find new employment.

It's a risk no other way of looking at it.
