Advice, Please???

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Advice, Please???

#1 Postby Bellarose » Sun Oct 02, 2005 7:08 pm

Hi, all. First of all, I live by this site during huricane season. I live in Tampa and this is the best source of info I could imagine. You guys have all taught me so much about hurricanes. Nothing I could post could give you all the credit you deserve, so I will just get to my question.

We have a wedding next Saturday in Gainesville, FL. From what I have seen tonite, we have 2 possible systems that could affect this very special day. Can someone shed some light on what we may expect? Bear in mind, I know that these things are not etched in stone, but if we need to take some precautions this would be the first place I would go to get some much needed advice. Especially since 99% of the guests are flying in from RI!

Thank you all so much in advance!!!

Bella

this is from the long term discussion out of Jacksonville - don't know if it helps much but post again Tues. & if no met here has responded to you by that time then I will get the newest discussion for you - hope it helps a little.

.LONG TERM...LONG TERM PROGS STILL SHOW A DEVELOPING TROUGH TO
PUSH THROUGH THE OHIO VALLEY BY WEEKS END WITH SOUTHERN EXTENSION
INTO THE SOUTHEAST STATES. THIS WILL PICK UP THE MOISTURE
ASSOCIATED WITH SYSTEM IN THE GULF AND MAY BE LOOKING AT ANOTHER
HYBRID TYPE SYSTEM FOR FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY. MUCH UNCERTAINTY
EXISTS AT THIS TIME AND WILL GO WITH GENERALLY SCATTERED POPS
THROUGH THE PERIOD.

oh! here is where you can go yourself to keep an eye out - scroll til you see the discussion forom the Jacksonville office.
They update 2-3 times a day.

when three of them show something that tends to be an indication of a trend  That being said nothing is certain but it appears an area of low pressure could form and move into the se GOM. Where it goes from there is up in the air. At this point it appears a cold front may move it NE across Florida. Keep watching the local weather and of course...check back into S2K.

I knew I could count on you guys! I'll definately keep checking back here. It scared the heck out of me when I cameback from a wonderful day at Clearwater and saw there were two possible systems. I almost need "Hurricanes for Dummies". Still trying to get a handle on ridges, cold fronts, etc. But, I've already gotten quite an education!

Thanks for your help so far. Off to the Hard Rock for a few, but will check back when I get home!!!

PS....my keyboard is horrible, so please excuse any typos....

Also, there's this key word: "Gainesville"

Not on the coast, not low-elevation, not a problem. When people on the coast evacuate, they go TO Gainesville.

In other words, even if a landfalling hurricane was heading right to that part of Florida, you would not be in a place where you might have to evacuate from surge. It has to be a terrifically bad storm to have to leave a place like Gainesville.

Just a tip. I'm not a pro met -- but I play one online.

I'd suggest you keep an eye on things, but not worry until at least Wednesday. The models are much better within 72 hours.

Those systems will likely move south of you, so shouldn't be too worried. Keep an eye, but keep your plans the way they are. Good luck with your marriage!
