Why do people want a cape verde storm?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

If so, also, what about Hurricane Emily in 1993?

EDIT: Ah, you are going back to 96, nvm.

WeatherEmperor wrote:.....LOL! What are you talking about?? Irene NEVER officially make landfall in NC. Look at the graphic and the official NHC plots:http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atlantic/1999H/IRENE/track.gif

Ophelia NEVER officially made landfall in NC. Look at the coordinates. NONE coresponde to an official landfall point in NC:

http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atl ... /track.dat

How can you say Katrina never made landfall as a hurricane in south Florida when it obviously became one prior to landfall there?

http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atl ... /track.gif

My friend I am talking about official "landfalling" hurricanes, not brushes.

<RICKY>

Did not count the Katrina on the east coast... my fault.. was not thinking about that...

But if you are talking only landfalls, then throw out Georges

You still forgot Bonnie in 1998 and you forgot Charley in NC in 2004.. Georges did not hit Florida then.. Period... But now you talk official landfalls... So thats fine.... I guess since the hurricane didnt make landfall in the Carolinas area, then hurricane force winds dont count as they do in Florida when it hits Mississippi which is the case with Georges...

However, nowhere did it say in the thread, official landfalls... I was basing my argument on effects to start, until you had to "correct" me on Dennis and Alex... Still does not change the fact that in the original, you forgot, Isabel, Charley, and Bonnie...

You dont want to count Irene and Dennis, Fine... but the eyewall with full hurricane force winds in Alex and Ophelia along the Carolinas coast... Slant it however you want it... The arrgument was not over true landfalls in the first place..

Well thats right, since i started in 1996 and he drug it back to 95... But thats true.. But in his eyes, the true barometric center did not cross the coast so the true hurricane effects dont count for NC..

well i guess its not over afterall but Ill end it right here cause I aint in the mood to be discussion hurricane landfalls anyways. He dont wanna talk about official landfalls which is fine, because when it comes to that, there were so many storms that did not "officially" make landfall in FL but caused some major damage, and you know what I mean when I say that bro :D. Perhaps Ivan maybe.... Georges maybe...... No matter how ya add it up, official landfall or not, FL has gotten it worse then NC but oh well. Well I guess at least you got my back ivanhater. Lets get outta here and just enjoy our weekend. Peace out bro 8-)

no way bro. Come on that was cold. Dont you twist my words on me like that. You know you should not say that but you said it anyways. I never in the history of this thread or topic mentioned that the true hurricane force winds did not matter for NC. I am now going to end this discussion simply because you insisted that upon me.

I am not trying to pick a fight here, however, you were throwing out the close canes that had official hurricane force winds on the coast... You want to go with official where the barometric center actually hit the coast.. Period, its that simple... ophelia and Alex for the sake of arrgument by most folks, would and is considered a landfall.. And if you wanted to, I would give you Ivan... The center was very close there... Close enough IMO.. But the guy said, NC gets all the thrills... i just simply posted all the hurricanes and tropical storms that have past through here and caused hurricane conditions over the past 10 years... And I winked at you for the re-do the math comment.. Not meant to be crappy...

I was just pointing out to the last poster that the hurricane force winds did not count in this arrgument since we were talking direct landfall points.. Period.. And that is whar you were saying.. you cant arrgue with that..

Not meant to be starting trouble, are trying to pick a fight.. I see it differently..

Dont worry about it Jesse. Perhaps we all misinterpreted each other. No matter who got more or less, the fact remains we all suffered a great deal and that is something you and I both agree on :D . Stay safe during your hurricane experiences 8-)

Georges also caused damage in the FL Panhandle, even though he made landfall west of there. US 98 between Destin and Ft. Walton Beach got overwashed, though fortunately the road bed wasn't undermined that time. Also major flooding about 20 miles inland- the city of Crestview was essentially an island for a couple of days because the Shoal, Yellow, etc. Rivers didn't just go above flood stage, they went above the roadways. FL-85 was under water, and parts of I-10 flooded out bad enough that they had to shut down the interstate and send people onto the fortunately relatively undamaged US 98.
