I will admit there is a part of me that loves the excitement before a storm.. I'm an adrenaline junkie so this probably doesnt come as a surprise to anyone. I imagine many feel the same way as well. When Katrina was baring down close to here, it was exciting. But once you are hunkered down and the winds start increasing the excitement quickly fades and the reality of the situation starts to set in. Everyone knows that with a storm that lives most likely will be lost.. and it slowly sinks in that someone you know or love could die as a result of the storm... and then you also start thinking about your home and your neighborhood... and you realize that even though you are safe at the moment, you may not have anything to go back too. And then there is the big, horrible aftermath. Watching people walk around shell shocked. Being without electricity for possibly weeks. Even doing the simple things in life become suddenly difficult.
Sure I dont blame anyone for doing alittle -removed- now and then, we all have some sense of adventure. But after you have gone through it you will soon start -removed- the storms away from your area. Except for an occasional T.S. or Cat 1

I dont think so. FL has gotten way more then they have. 4 canes impacted FL in 2004 remembah? Not to mention 2 so far this year.

You need to re-do your math...

Duffy wrote:oh i see, you're trying to subliminly imply that i am immature, because i like or want a landfalling system...well at least i am honest enough to admitt it...i think there's still alot of people I disagree with out there, who would love to experience a Hurricane, but after Katrina and Rita respectively, they may not think its proper to say something like that
but i will admitt that i want a storm to come up towards me..and i admitt it![]()
alot of ppl want to experience the wrath of the "Big Storm"...i don't think there's anything immature about that
having said that, i mean no disrespect for the folks who have suffered from these storms.....but its just a thing i have for wanting to experience a Hurricane, at least once more in my lifetime![]()
and i love media Frenzy a storm can create
Exactly, and the question was meant to be a shot just like you said.. Anyone who would ask that question, and be a member of this board, needs to step back and think before they type... If age is an issue as to who likes hurricanes or not, then why are you posting here??? Why do you read the boards??? Everyone here loves a good storm, some just will not admit to it for whatever reasons.. Maybe necause they feel like they will be put down by your age question and flamed for saying so... If you didnt love to track a good hurricane and see the build up of the story on TV, you would not be here posting on this board.. And thats the truth and everyone here kows that!

You need to re-do your math...Since 1996, North Carolina has had 9 hurricanes and 1 strengthening TS Gustav in 2002 which brushed the coast and flooded Hatteras Village on its way by. Florida has been spared until last year.. but everyone knew it was just a matter of time..

I think you need to re-do your math my friend. Lets count them year by year for both Florida and North Carolina since 1995 - 2005. This is only landfalling hurricanes only:
1995
Erin:FL
Opal:FL
1996
Bertha:NC
Fran:NC
1998
Georges:FL(Keys)
1999
Floyd:NC (Dennis made official landfall in NC as a TS)
Irene:FL
2003
Isabel:NC
2004
(Alex brushed NC but landfall is debatable however it is still not listed as an official NC landfall)
Charley:FL
Frances:FL
Jeanne:FL (Ivan made landfall in Alabama but has significant impacts on FL Panhandle)
2005
Dennis:FL
Katrina:FL and LA obviously
So if you add up all the landfalls.
NC: 4 hurricane landfalls with Alex brushing the coast.
FL: 9 hurricane landfalls.
Perhaps you are talking about hurricanes that have made landfall somewhere else, but affected North Carolina as remnant tropical systems. If that is what you meant you should have mentioned that instead of 9 hurricanes impacting NC because they did not all impact and certainly did not all make landfall as hurricanes in NC. Only the aforementioned 4 made landfall as hurricanes. Any others that you are mentioning were probably the remnants of other storms and they should be classified that way
If you dont believe me, just check out this website and click on each year and add up the totals yourself: http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/

Hate to bust your bubble: you left out Bonnie in 1998 for NC
Irene also hit north carolina as a hurricane in 1999
I will give you Dennis
Isabel in 2003 in NC.
Anmd I see your debate on Alex, I was there, just south as Alex moved by, I know the NHC does not say officially a landfall, but radar proved that tyhe eyewall crossed the coast and into the sound which put the western edge of the eye onshore near Buxton..
Not to mention, Ophelia this year.. I left that one out..
So lets be fair here, you added Georges, but it made landfall in Biloxi, so that does not count... Or you can count it, but that would make Alex count as well.. Katrina, another one that does not count if you use your range of landfall... Never hit Florida..
If thats the case, then Dennis counts as it made its first pass of NC as a hurricane and had the effects to count as such..
So I count 9 hurricane in Florida since 1995
and 9 hurricanes then for NC..
If we use your method.. But Thats just how I see it

.....LOL! What are you talking about?? Irene NEVER officially make landfall in NC. Look at the graphic and the official NHC plots:http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atlantic/1999H/IRENE/track.gif
Ophelia NEVER officially made landfall in NC. Look at the coordinates. NONE coresponde to an official landfall point in NC:
http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atl ... /track.dat
How can you say Katrina never made landfall as a hurricane in south Florida when it obviously became one prior to landfall there?
http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atl ... /track.gif
My friend I am talking about official "landfalling" hurricanes, not brushes. So once again, Dennis never never made landfall as a hurricane in NC. Look at the graphic:
http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atl ... /track.gif
Its obviously offshore as a hurricane but made landfall as a TS.

I never counted Ivan. I specified that in my post. The thing here is especially regarding Georges and Alex. If we are gonna say that Georges never officially made landfall in Key West because it only brushed it, then couldnt we also say that Alex never officially made landfall in NC because it also brushed it? If I know my terminology correctly, it does not become an official landfall until the exact middle center of the entire eye crosses land, not just the eyewall. So that would have to negate Georges from making landfall in FL and Alex from making landfall in NC. Is that right or not?
