That's a nice pic, THead, and don't worry I've no idea where that came from either.

Here's a neat perspective of Emily, from the Space Station.

I picked Katrina, although Rita during he explosive deepening overnight had the most impressive IR presentation. But that was overnight, so we never saw a visible image of the eye at that time. By the time visible was back, she was starting that long, strange EWRC.

It would've been astounding if the space shuttle was up there during Katrina and/or Rita. Does anybody know if any pics were taken from the International Space Station?

Didn't Katrina's eye have some eerie star-shaped image inside it for a little while? I can't remember what someone called it but evidently the poster said this phenomenon is not seen too often. There was a good pic of it in one of the threads but I did not save it and can't remember where it was. Now that is a pic I'd really like to see again, if anyone knows where to find it.

Cool Pic of Katrina included

#35 Postby camilletider » Wed Sep 28, 2005 12:18 am

I agree that the tropical cyclone eye is one of the most wonderous and fascinating sites in all of nature. It is this beauty and the constantly changing structure that hints of something delicate yet is revealed as one of the most powerful forces on earth that got me so interested in hurricanes to begin with. Tornadoes are incredible sites as well but their true appearences are obscured from our sites many times by everything from trees and buildings to debris, airborn cattle, or rain.

I think the hur hunter pic is from Hur Allen of 1980 but I'm not sure.

Here is a pretty cool pic for every one to enjoy of meso structure within the eyewall where you can see the funnel cloud actually reaching across part of the eye. It shows up for about three or four pics on the satellite. One of these either within the eyewall or occuring similar to this pic is what nearly killed Jeff Masters and crew in Hugo.

This Hur Katrina on Aug 29 at 1640z from a blowup of the G-12 image. I only took a few steps to get this and I intend to try to make this look a little better if possible.
