Storm surge pushed water into the Bay of Saint Louis, up the Jordan river into my home, barrelling over land. My elevation was only 10 feet, even though I am several miles from the Bay. So you can get storm surge many miles inland from a river. It's not a rain event.

There's a big fight brewing now between insurance companies and homeowners over this very issue.

Yep, and that's why the word "FLOOD or FLOODING" no longer exists in my coastal vocabulary!! The "SURGE" that entered my home - the same surge that's gonna cost tons to repair/rebuild - is absolutely, without a doubt "wind driven water". We did not have a "flood" here on the coast - we had storm surge. Had those "hurricane" winds not been blowing consistently from the south from a storm that only a few hours earlier held CAT 5 winds and pressures, there would have been no water in my house. Agree, MS Storm - it's NOT a rain event - here or in Erath!!

Hi CajunMama. Hi HurricaneQueen.
My home came out really well. We live about 1.5 miles north of Erath and
only had minor flooding here. I had 3 feet of dirt hauled before my wife
and I built so we are now 12 feet above sea level. However, my parents,
my sister, my grandparents and my aunts & uncles all live about 1.5 miles
south of Erath. It looks like they may have all lost everything due to the surge.
