OK, this question is for you hurricane historians.
What hurricane took an unusual due west track through the Gulf of Mexico?
In other words, it formed in the Atlantic, entered the Gulf, and moved pretty much in a straight line path westward until it made landfall.

The closest I could find were Inez (1966) and Caroline (1975).

Hi all, I usually lurk but this time I feel like posting. Some of you might know me from the IRC channel.
Anyway...

Wow, what an interesting track! Could you imagine this board tracking that hurricane, especially if the NHC predicted the northern turn well in advance?
For days and days it would be:
When is it going to turn north?
OMG! It's not turning north!
What's wrong with the NHC??? Are they crazy????
Did I just see a north wobble?
That's not a wobble, it's still going due west. This is a Mexico storm.
OK, it's still going north. That's not a wobble, that's a trend.

Not to mention all of the AccuWeather threads that would pop up. "J.B. says it's gonna turn north and plow into Houston, then New Orleans, then Tampa, then race up the east coast, then loop back around to the Gulf." "AccuWeather just posted that the NHC forecast was worthless." "AccuWeather just said it would hit somewhere between Brownsville and Nova Scotia."FunkMasterB wrote:Is it Hurricane #8 from 1886?
