I know the WPAC has Typhoons in December still, but what about the Atlantic. What is the latest date a hurricane has formed in the Atlantic Basin, has there ever been a hurricane in the atlantic in december?
I know the season ends in November, but I am asking what is the latest date a hurricane has ever formed in the atlantic and what was it called.

If Hurricanes can form at the end of december why not extend the season to December.
Because the frequency of December storms are very low. Same reason why we don't extend the season to April or May. It's just rare.
I believe a storm has formed in every single month of the calendar at some point over the years (perhaps there has been ONE month where it hasn't.) Can you imagine if the hurricane season was extended to 12 months? You'd have postings on this board in mid-February: "WHY ARE THE TROPICS SO DEAD???"

It would be amazing if the Atlantic Season was year round like the WPAC. Maybe even a good thing.

Hah! We had people saying that during this August... during what was an average August. (It ended up being slightly above normal)

If the Atlantic hurricane season was year round all the Gulf Coast residents would drop down on their knees and collapse on the floor. 6 months of rest from hurricane season isn't enough for many. Personally I'd just stop tracking cause it would get mundane and boring after awhile.

This season topped the '04 season. And before this, I had never seen anything like the '04 season.
