I don't know what rip wrap is, but just heard on khou.com that they are releasing water from a lake. There is a dam that they think is weak and the water is going to go into this river.

That's all I was able to catch, I am not from the area, but have been watching the internet stream (have a lot of friends down that way)

I'm a civil engineer, and rip rap is used to prevent (or slow down) erosion of riverbanks and shorelines.

in this area, rip rap is used instead of wood or metal bulkheading, it's the placement of small boulders on a slope along bodies of water our Water resources dept prefers rip rap over bulkheading.

Lake Livingston Dam

#7 Postby thetraveler » Sun Sep 25, 2005 8:23 pm

We may be need to continue to bump this. Lake Livingston is a 90,000 acre lake located north of Houston about 90 miles. Its depth ranges from 3 feet to about 60 feet. Folks that is alot of water. I see a FOX news alert on it and they are talking about it here in L.A. (I am from Cleveland Tx, just working here.) I hope Houston is carrying this on their radios because my family does not have power but do know about it so that tells me there are others in the danger area that may not know. BTW the dam had a wind gust at 116 MPH. If you know someone in the area below the dam call them and let them know they are releasing 80,000 to 100,000 cubic feet per second. If I here more I will post it.
