Weather Channel Tropical Update Music

#1 Postby jamiewx » Wed Sep 07, 2005 9:32 pm

This might seem like a weird question, but does anyone know what the name of the music, or tune, is that the Weather Channel uses for their tropical update. They also use the same music when they are in alert mode.

I sent an email asking the question to the Weather Channel and got no response.

No idea, I liked the old graphic and song combo before they added the new logo. I will record with my tuner tomorrow and host it somewhere if you want.

Thanks Noah, I did look at that page and couldn't find anything specific to the Tropical Update, that was just the local forecast music. So I sent them an email, i guess they are not sure either. I just thought it was an interesting piece of music, and was wondering what the name of it was.

I love the theme... have no idea what the title is though. They first started using it for the Katrina coverage(everytime they'd come back from a break).

That's right, they are using it now as well, with Ophelia.

The MP3 audio you provided sounds like CNN's theme for their daytime show "Live From..." !

Stock music or Royalty Free music comes out with lots of jingles for news programs (if you search for eitehr on the web you can find lots of them for sale there). Lots of composers write jingles just for things like news shows, so my guess is that they found one they liked and "bought" it so that it would only be used by them. If you travel a lot and watch the local news, some of those news intros sound really similar to something you have heard before someplace else? I don't know if each picks out their own or if NBC/ CBS etc, each have a selection that each local station can pick from. But I think most of that music comes from sources like that.
