This is the same Scott Stevens who was, for the briefest of times, the chief met for the local CBS affiliate. Turns out he was fired from there for forging on his application that he had a met degree from Oklahoma U.

Man, either he's really gone off the deep end, or he's scamming people once again. I suspect the latter.

He forged his application? Hmmmmm...wonder if he and Brown could start their own version of "FEMA?"

OklahomaWeather wrote:Glad to help. I watched the video you mentioned, and those are actually somewhat common... I've seen about 5 or so in my lifetime, but I don't spend all my time looking for them.. :D It is absolutely rediculous that he would label this as "fully unnatural." These are commonly referred to as "cold air" or "cool weather" funnels.. Usually (but not always) occur behind the passage of a cold front.

Think about it this way, the atmosphere is a fluid, constantly moving and changing. Any number of microscale processes and temperatures differences can cause the begin a circulation, and if the air is moist enough, the condensation funnel will appear. They are harmless and will not reach the ground, just cool to look at!

The gravity waves I was talking about- if you look at those satellite pictures on his website and see the "ripples" in the clouds - those are the gravity waves.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this....now I will know what I'm looking at if I ever see one! :D

All over this dude's site he asks the same question (paraphrasing) "Why aren't the other meteorologists freaking out over this?". Wellllll, could it possibly be because the phenomena he notices are all explainable and really not all that uncommon? I see cold air funnels most every fall/early winter here.

I'm reminded of the "faces" in the smoke from the WTC terrorist attack that were screen captured from live streams on CNN and other media sources. There were "devils", "angels", "Jesus on horseback", etc. ad nauseum.

Clouds, like smoke, change shape constantly. Stare at 'em long enough, you'll see all kinds of evidence for whatever you want to prove. This guy is like a kid looking at the sky on a fair summer day, finding doggies and horsies and alien spaceships and conspiracy theories in the clouds.

So you give funnel clouds a different name if they aren't assoicated with a mesocyclone? We would just call it a funnel cloud here as we would if it was associated with a mesocyclone.

WOW!! This whole Japenese involvement is really starting to make sense, why just the other day I saw a cloud that looked like Godzilla, never mind I was listening to the song, Go, Go, Godzilla, there goes Tokyo.....

I think the Germans are involved with them again as I swear I see German Shepherd clouds today!!

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord, my soul to keep,

In hopes to rid myself of sorrow,
I hope this thread is locked tomorrow!

Interesting to note that the S2K moderators decided to delete my sincere comment of yesterday about AccuWeather's ongoing public attacks of the NHC and NWS, but decided to let a topic like this remain, which contains comments that likely offend many Japanese-American posters here...

Wow, Frank. Shame on us. It's offensive to so many people - Japanese-Americans, German-Americans, German Shepherd owners, Idahoans, meteorologists, people who consume potatoes, Godzilla and Mothra fans, cloud watchers, people who forge credentials on their resumes, the Yazuka, nut jobs, conspiracy theorists, etc. etc. A travesty! Destroy it now, before the insensitivity spreads!

I locked this thread
It hurts my head
To see such BS posted;
Now breakfast comes
I want my buns
Not warm, but lightly toasted.
