Its strange how this year Katrina and Rita made landfall really close to each other, not as close as Frances and Jeanne did in Fla. last year, but still. Both times within 3 weeks of each other too. Then there's Ivan and Dennis both close landfalls, but a year apart.

Another interesting thing with Katrina and Rita, is that about the distance south in Fla. that Rita went compared to Katrina, is about the distance Rita went west of Katrina in LA.

I noticed that too--it doesn't jibe with a few statements that have been made, but particularly this one: "Didn't have power for two weeks and didn't see any national news." Surely any local TV station would be getting, at the very least, a national feed from its parent company and would have some means of generator power to receive said feed.

Another thing is Katrina hit the extreme SELA coast, bordering Mississippi, and Rita hit the extreme SWLA coast, bordering Texas.

Everyone has and explained that the product was experimental. The

The fact that NO was under a tropical storm warning issued at 4pm cdt thur means that TS winds were expected within 24 hours. That warning overshadows your little experimental chart.

AT 4 PM CDT...2100Z...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR NORTH OF THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER TO THE MOUTH OF THE PEARL RIVER INCLUDING METROPOLITAN NEW ORLEANS AND LAKE
PONTCHARTRAIN.

It's still there. I took a screenshot of it but am too lazy to upload it, unless someone can point me to the S2K image hosting :)

I wish I could find the post one of the mods made, showing the tracks of all hurricanes that formed within 300 miles of Rita in September. Rita will be by far the furthest west landfall of any of those in recorded history, if I remember correctly. Anyone know of the post I'm talking about?

Also, that makes 3 major hurricanes in the last 13 years that have went through or directly effected extreme S. Fla, and then made landfall in La.
