Winds are probably gusting in the low 60's right now here in Lafayette. Rain has picked up very heavy again and we have an intense band coming straight towards us from the gulf. Will probably gust to hurricane force within the next hour. Rainfall over 5" now.

Innotech, from what I see on the Lake Charles radar, you are about to be solidly embedded in the edge of the core band, arcs from New Iberia to Beaumont, very intense echoes over Lake Charles. It may get bad again soon and stay that way a while.

Winds and rain increasing. Sustained at 25-30 with gusts to 48 at the Weatherbug down the street. Hearing thuds as limbs fall. Going outside to "experience" it.

Update-winds now 37 sustatined gusting to 54 mph. Power flickering on and off so I may not be on much longer. Rain is moderate at best but picking up. We are on the dry side of the storm so that makes sense. over 200,000 without power now.

446,000 without power now!!! We haven't seen the worst of this for our area yet. There are reporters stranded under overpasses and dodging flying roofs in the Beaumont area. Rain has let up in my area for now as well as the gusty winds, but sustained are in the 35-40 mph range still. More shown coming our way on the radar though.

Lake Livingston dam to the ne of Houston is currently reporting 117 mph gusts and 10-20 waves slamming against the dam. We have relatives up there right on the water. Not sure if they left or not.

Drove from west Houston to Hobby airport to work at 8am. Looks like we got 30-40 mph winds in southwest Houston with gusts maybe 50-60 (if that). Very little tree damage, just small limbs down. Saw a few damaged billboards along 610 and I-45 south, but little evidence of any significant wind other than that.

Update: Still getting intermittent squalls here in Lafayette with winds gusting up to 50mph still. A maple tree uproated in my backyard but other than that we have no damage except for a huge mess with all the leaves and branches everywhere. Rain totals around here are most likely 8-10" so looks like we've finally had our drought buster.
