I really feel for y'all. Nawlins is a beautiful city, and you folks deserve to have it back, and totally rebuilt, with adequate levees.

Mixed reports. They are now saying it is not a breach of the Harvey Canal, the winds are pushing the water over - that is how high the water is. My BIL is going back on the boat now, so we will know soon what is really going on.

And for the guy from Alaska... you really have no room to talk when it comes to wasting tax dollars. The taxpayers of this country, including Louisiana, are slated to fund a bridge in Alaska that goes nowhere. Connecting mainland Alaska to an island with like 50 people? No need to say anything further about that. I'm not getting personal, just stating facts.

I'm not sure what the point is in defending a bad idea by comparing it to a worse idea.

If we rebuild NO it WILL flood again. Every year the true gulf moves closer to the city due to the Mississippi river being channeled and deprived of its natural function of carrying silt to build the delta. The situation will continue to get worse so a multi billion dollar levee system will gradually become less effective.

This is precisely why any reconstruction and improvement to New Orleans' levee system should be coupled with a comprehensive effort to restore our coastline. The "America's Wetland" campaign to rebuild Louisiana's coast has been working toward this for a while now. Believe it or not, it is possible to restore our coastline. Florida got billions of federal dollars to restore the Everglades... why not restore Louisiana's wetlands as well?

I just heard Jefferson Parish's Emergency Management director, Walter Maestri, say that the Harvey Canal is being monitored "minute to minute", and that no evacuations are reccomended at this time. He said that the canal is contained within it's banks at this time, but they are worried about still rising waters. This south wind needs to stop.

yea florida did restore the everglades.....and hopefully lousiana will get the same

why not restore Louisiana's wetlands as well?

I really hope to hear more of this talk in the future. It is wise to restore the wetlands, proplay not possible to the extent it should be done, but some restoration I think is a must.
