I'm looking at the radar right now and the eye has completely closed. This storm is weakening.

An eye closing on radar means strengthening, not weakening.

The eyewall is not contracting, its collapsing. Big difference.

The eyewall is not collapsing. This is not just going to fall apart. It looks better than it did 5 hours or so ago. Is it strenghtening, probably not. But new Recon Vortex shows it maintaing very well, with 931 pressure and 124 kt FL winds, about 125 to 130 mph at the surface

These theories of this storm falling apart to a cat 1 or even cat 2 are a bunch of you know what. We will be lucky if this gets to 110, but I doubt it does. 115 to 125 looks most likely.

Well, according to the latest Vortex, the eye is open East to West, the pressure is up to 931. Sounds like it is collapsing to me..

Not collapsing. An eyewall open could mean a number of things including ERC, etc, but the eyewall in this case is not collapsing.

If the eyewall collapses, this would be a min cat 1 hurricane or a TS at landfall. Think about the chances of that actually happening.

NHC also says "the weakening has leveled off". Most of the people posting this crap were the same ones citing NHC about how it was weakening and not strengthening, but now that they say its leveled off, they are not defending NHC this time. What gives?

I was just watching Ed Rappaport on MSNBC and the radar behind him you could see the rain bands in the southern semicircle fading and the south eyewall fading also. Looks alot like Katrinas radar presentation as it landfell the se tip of Louisiana.

Again...the last few frames seem to indicate a new eyewall structure on the north 180 degrees with heavy rain within it. Also, a shift (perhaps meaningless, but at least interesting to watch) to due north which, if it occurs, will be great news for virtually all of Texas to the Louisiana line.

Fingers crossed.

latest radar shows eyewall continuing to breakdown....less than 50% now. possible only cat 2 conditions will be realized.
