Take a garbage bag or small plastic bag and fold it into a square big enough to cover the drain area.. then tape the HECK outta it with duck tape or electrical tape or some other waterproof type tape. THis should hold so you can at least fill your tub to flush the potty with.

You only need 1 to 2 gallons to flush your potty with. Pour it fast not slow. I reccommend practicing before power/water goes out to see just how much water your potty needs to flush by pouring in the bowl of the potty. Tell everyone to go easy on the TP or just have baggies for peeps to throw the TP in and I know it's gross but right now a clog wouldn't be a good thing .. if water gets low only flush when someone number 2's or a female needs to use the bathroom. Pouring a capful of bleach after flushing into the bowl can help with sanitation issues too

Of course, when I showered last night, before I "glued" the rubber plug in place with the silicone goop, I had forgotten to lift the lever for the main drain plug and tub filled up fast, lol. That gave me the *brighter* idea that maybe I should clean out my hairbrush and put that wad of hair in that drain--it sure works when you DO NOT want the drain plugged up and holding water, ha!

I have evacuated a little north and am staying in a motel even though the owners took off and evacuated last night. We're on our own now. I'm just hoping my house will be ok.

All clear right now.... very windy outside. My younger brother is at work until 2pm. I guess they took a chance opening KFC for a few hours. I wouldn't have gone to work this morning. We're just on the east side of the storm and people think we're fine here I guess.

Most business are closed I believe. Walmart was closed last night and they never close. Burger Kings were closed too. I'm not assuming much is open.

We have some light drizzle. The outer bands should be here in the next 4 - 6 hours. We're looking to get a LOT of rain. She's moving slow too, so that's something to worry about.

I may be posting from my friends house down the road. We'll see!

Until then we are going to try and enjoy the weather until it gets too bad.

By chance do you have a cat? The people on DI suggest buckets filled with kitty litter. I don't know if it works that is just what they report and they seem to do without water and sewers on a regular basis over there in Alabama

Reporting in from beautiful southwest Houston. The sky is looking a little weird and glassy. The winds have picked up in the past couple of hours.

We put a net over the pool. We boarded up select windows. My parents won't board up the sliding door, but I can't blame them. It's hard to be in a house for an unknown length of time with it all dark inside. If we need to, we have to huge wooden shelves we can push in front of the sliding doors.

We've all taken our showers (maybe the last ones for a while), and received calls from friends far and near.

I guess we're ready...

Here is a suggestion for stopping up the tub. We live 20 miles below where Charley, Frances and Jeanne intersected in Polk County. We couln't find anything to stop up our tub either. However, I realized that a votive candle wrapped in a little saranwrap works perfectly. The votive is easy to handle and the saranwrap provides the extra sealing and keeps the wax from being sheard off. And it can be used over and over, if neccessary. Hopefully that's not the case!

Our prayers and thoughts are with you and everyone in that region having to deal with Rita.

Wellllll, good news!!!!

The little folded-up plastic bag with duct tape on all four sides, two layers deep, alternating where the cut part is, and burnished down very well, has held the tubful for the past 3 hours!!! Yea!!!!

I also sank all my large plastic containers in the water, in case it drained when I was asleep or not paying attention, at least those would be full of water, but it looks like it will hold. They hurried us up so much on TV that I'm finally finished and it's sunny and not even breezy, although the wind did kick up a little about an hour ago.

I've got everything so taped up that I couldn't leave even if I wanted to. So, here I am till power goes off!
