Houston max winds and storm surge for Galveston

If track verifies and landfall is near beaumont. Does houston avoid hurricane force winds since NHC forecasts them to extend only 40 miles southwest quad and Houston is about 95 miles away?


Would surge for galveston be 5-8 feet since storm is to east?

5-8 foot surge from galveston bay is better than a 30 ft storm surge from the GOM

Could even be less than that... When Fredrick hit 70 miles east of here, the winds were consistently from the N and NE - blew water out of the Bay and MS Sound to a point of negetive sea level. And the winds here in Biloxi for Fredrick were sustained at 100-115 mph. To a smaller degree, same thing happened with Georges, but he was only about 15 miles east at the center. IMO, Houston will certainly see gusts to hurricane force.

Would a storm a 100 miles east be better than one 200 west?

The latest advisory says otherwise...

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 80 miles...130 km...
from the center...and tropical storm force winds extend outward up
to 205 miles...335 km :eek: :eek: :eek:
