According to Pat Shingleton, we can expect winds gusting to about 50mph south and west of the city. East of the city, we may see winds gusting to 40 or so. He says to expect 2-4 inches of rain...not enough to flood Amite, Tickfaw Rivers. There could be sporadic power outages.

Live in Baton Rouge. Work in Denham. About to move out there actually ... I am hearing the same thing. Sustained CLOSE to TS force with gusts 40-60. LOTS of rain. What MIGHT be a problem in Livingston parish is flooding.

Keep an eye on the Amite especially if the track shifts any more to the east.

Who is working tomorrow in my area ?

My boss said we are closed tommorow as of now as long as it stays on current track !

I believe that it is lower Livingston Parish of concern - because of Lake Maurepaus.

It takes a while for the rivers to rise on the Amite . . .

I own a computer business, we do commercial and retail. I have decided to close the retail side until Tuesday, must tailgate on Monday. We will be visiting our commercial customers tomorrow and making sure their backups are good and we unplug any essential equipment.

I heard on channel 9 (Jay Grimes) that it would be about the same as Katrina here but with the winds out of the east and south, but our winds will last longer 18 hrs he had said. Of course the farther N and E she goes the worst it will get here.

Once the storm starts, unplug your computer. In the two weeks after Katrina I sold more power supplies than ever. Most of the owners say the systems were off. Could have been they were about to fail and the extended break killed them, but I have my doubts on that one.

Pretty much we thinned out all the trees that were week and open to the west. Now we will probably see the same thing but knocking down the trees that were sheilded, since our winds will be out of the opposite direction than Katrina.

Surge flooding doesn't concern me as much in our area as flooding from high rain totals and, of course, it does take a while to rise. I think the rain totals might be pretty high if the stalling thing occurs somewhat east of their current thinking. My parents had 2.5 ft of water in their house from TS Allison.

I am encouraged by the 2-4" that Pat S indicated earlier ... still ... I am worried those totals might be low.

Well I like Jay Grimes ! He seems to always be pretty much on target !!

I work for a MAJOR insurance company in D.S and I expect to stay very busy after Rita has finished her rath !

I like him too, and he really isn't one to hype things up. He usually trys to play things down instead of causing a panic, but I did find it a little scary that he said similar to Katrina but from another direction. I am a little scared some of the band aids that Entergy put together to get us all back up might be in a little trouble now. For example, we lost power on Government street in our block for a little over an hour yesterday, while they were putting a permanent fix together.
