BTW, the bouy hasn't reported anything in more than half an hour... is it dead?

It appears that it only reports once an hour. So expect new measurements 10-15 minutes after the hour.

I was wrong... it also reports every 10 minutes but that is about an hour delayed:

4:10 pm NNW ( 333 deg ) 75.2 kts

1 mile = 1609m

calc: (3600 * 50)/1609 = 111.87mph.

buoy data has max wind gust as 97.1knots, (1kt = 1.1508mph) = 111.74mph

so its about right
