It was MONDAY that I said it was too early. Today is Thursday and still 48 hours from landfall. Landfall that look to probably take place somewhere between Galveston and Lafayette, LA. I NEVER said they should not evacuate. That is all I'm going to say on the subject. Good luck
Holly, it makes no difference when you said it, or where Rita ultimately goes. And, just to clarify a point, landfall is much less than 48 hrs, and landfall is not the deadline, anyway, it's tropical storm force winds or closing of bridges/roads.

You clearly state that Thursday or Friday morning is 'ample time' to evacuate. Circumstances have proven that is simply not true.
It's nothing personal, and I'm not trying to criticize you, as I'm wrong more often than anyone!
It just seems to me we should all learn that sometimes it's a good thing to err on the side of caution. And maybe it's even a good idea to withhold our inexpert opinion, when people might read our comments with everything else they are using, to help them make decisions which could have life or death consequences.
