Do you guys think we are done? Conditions look like they will remain favorable for a good while. Its hard to believe but I think this hurricane season still isnt over yet. I think we see stuff running into October and November. The possibility of another major hurricane makes it scarier. This will go down as the worst hurricane season ever. imho.

I just want a nice calm Cat 1 hurricane Alpha to get me out of school for 1 or 2 days. Thats all:( Truth is I could end up getting more then i wish for.

FL West Coast is always at reasonable risk from the late-season homebrew storms from the Bay of Campeche.

FL West Coast NATURALLY has a high risk in late Sept- November.

Due to ordinary troughs and fronts that dig down in late
september and early
october, anything in the carribean that enters the GOM tends
to be steered in a northeasterly direction towards FL's west
coast. This is exactly what happened in late September 2000 and
2001 with Hurricanes Gordon and Gabrielle hitting FL's west coast.

We were lucky with Rita because there was no cold front to
pull it northeastward and curve it into the west coast. It is unusual
not to have had some fronts nearing the GOM by now. Had
there been a strong front the FL West Coast would have been in trouble.

It's more like early September in the GOM with these monsters
going west than late September.

It's about time the public prepares for hurricane season before a category 4 comes barrelling toward them. While, yes, it is the EM officials' job to ensure that the evacuation progresses smoothly and that things are in place when they need to be, that doesn't absolve the public of serious responsibilities of their own. Everyone from Brownsville to Bangor needs to know what they should be doing during a storm, well before a storm. Have a plan in place because preparedness = survival.
