Dallas - Tropical Storm Conditions?
Some of the radio stations in Dallas this morning were advising people in our area to not underestimate the interior affects of this storm as is moves inland. One reporter said the southeastern most areas of North Central Texas COULD experience sustained winds of over 75 mph, and that Tropical Storm force winds between 40-60mph appear likely.
If this is the case, would it be wise for the National Weather Service to issue an Inland Tropical Storm Watch for the eastern 2/3 of North Texas?

CNN said this morning that Cat 1 winds can reach into Oklahoma....unbelievable!!!mf_dolphin wrote:I know they are expecting CAT 1 winds as far north as College Station so TS force winds in Dallas/Ft. Worth is highly likely IMO. I would expect inland wind warnings today for a large portion of Texas and Louisiana.

Where are you guys seeing this Cat 1 in DFW? Watching Evan Andrews this morning, and listening to WBAP and KRLD this morning, it doesn't sound like it's gonna be all that bad up here now that things have shifted Eastward. And the local NWS statements only mentions possible Cat 1 conditions for points South and East of here. The big concern for us is if it stalls and drifts in our direction.

Current track will put rita east of the D/FW area, We here will see rain 4-6" and some strong gust, however this all depends on the track after landfall, C1 winds can be felt as for north as Collage Station, but like I said it depends on whether the storm track stays at it's current location or shifts futher eastward or shifts back to the west some.

The NHC's track map this morning has "H" on the little dot just southeast of the Metroplex.

actually CAT 1 winds are not likely but, could easily happen....IF this comes in on nhc's path as of 10am....then we are much closer to the storm than befores thinking of SW of galveston. This maybe a worse path for us here in the big D. We are much closer to the coast in regards if this storm comes into just east of galveston. also, notice that the inland point is further west than before late last night and even this mornin...

gboudx,
I would secure any loose things outside around the house, the current track as of 10am from the NHC puts the heavest rain and strongest winds over East Texas, local forecast have refected this in current update with a 50% chance of rain from the 100-75% from yesterday. The big issue is how long will Rita hang around the N.C Texas area?? I would expect winds gusty 20 to 30 mph with Rita to the East and several inches of rain from D/FW eastward.
