Should Hurricane Watches Shift Eastward???
We may see the Hurricane Watches shift eastward. This storm is no longer moving due west. West jog, then NW JOGS=WNW. This storm could come extremely close to Houston to LA/Tex Line (SW LA.--not out the question either!!!)

Eastward bound
It does indeed seem that Rita is starting to make a more NW movement. Here at the Louisiana Emergency Operations Center in Baton Rouge, that seems to be the consensus.
I'm not sure when the hurricane warnings will shift eastward, perhaps all the way to New Orleans.... that's the last thing that they need!
Here in Baton Rouge, I'm starting to think I might stop by Home Depot and get some plywood to cover my windows on the house for this one...
Only time will tell, though.

Saved my Plywood from Katrian (I'm also in BR)!!! We are not out of the woods in my opinion, I only say that due to the developments in recent posts. Either way I don't think we will get as much damage as we got from Katrina, I think Rita would have to shift much farther east to really damage us.

I am in Baton Rouge as well. Being past the middle of September, a more north path is more of a concern. While the high is strong, there is better opportunity for Rita to come more north and Baton Rouge to be on the east side of the storm. I wish you luck at the OEP. Between Katrina and Rita, I know you are very busy.
