Calm before the Storm (Animals quiet/Gone In Houston)

#1 Postby HouTXmetro » Tue Sep 20, 2005 10:53 pm

I only seen 2 birds the entire day. I just stepped outside and the Sky is Clear with a bright moon. I could not hear one cricket, bird, or barking dog. OMINOUSE

I think someone in Boca Raton said that a day or two ago when Rita was east of Florida.

That's exactly what happened here before Katrina...no birds to be seen. It was extremely spooky.

If the pelicans are gone than you are in trouble. A couple of days before Katrina all the pelicans were gone from the Mississippi Gulf Coast......MGC

The hummingbirds who use my feeder are gone. They've been here consistently for over two weeks and I haven't seen them in two days.

:(

I also noticed no birds chirping this afternoon/evening. It's wierd.

I think my family and friends thought I was nuts yesterday when I told them Houston was going to get nailed since most, if not all, of the birds were gone. Good to see that other people are nuts just like me!!

Well I am happy to say that I saw several birds today on the Texas/La. border!! Do squirrels count?? Saw tons of them! Seriously, tonight it is very quiet and I commented this to my wife as we left Wally World with some batteries.....

We don't have any birds or squerrels in North Texas either. They all died of thirst or heat stroke weeks ago  Seriously, the animals know when bad things are about to happen

Clear Lake looked like glass at 7 pm tonight which NEVER happens at that time. looked quite surreal and i too have noticed not a bird, very calm with that orange sky tonight. Benn packing things up for my parents, they are a block off the water and will probably lose their house to the surge waters. I hate to wish this on someone else but..........WISH WISH WISH!

The Orange Sky......I saw this when O was out around us. I remember someone talking about this before and thought it was a bunch of bunk, until I saw it for myself. Very weird to look at, all my neighbors had all come out to look at the sky and poof it was gone.

Ya'll please take care and if you are in the path, Please PM the mods with contact info!! I swear I grew some more gray hairs worrying after Katrina.

I'm in Pearland which is very much in the path of Rita (bit south/southeast of Houston) and I had lots of squirrels in the yard, had several birds in my trees, and had 3 hummingbirds come within the last few days.

Is this a good sign for my husband? I hope so because I'm leaving tomorrow and he's not. He's not taking this storm seriously at all. I hope I'm not a widow when all is said and done.

Right before Katrina there were no birds to be found and normally I have a gazillion birds in the morning singing to me as I get in my car and go to work. Alot of the Camille survivors have told me years ago about the absense of birds before a hurricane and I do believe it. Animals can sense things before we do. My dog the day before Katrina hit was very subdued and followed me around all the time, kind of drove me nuts but I guess he was sticking by me to either protect me or to make sure I protected him....
