Wow, that's interesting stuff! Especially in light of the current disaster here. Thanks Hurakan!

Betsy happened before my time. My mother says she was in New Orleans visiting my aunt, and she left two days before the storm hit. My aunt had to be rescued off her rooftop (sound familiar?) due to the floodwaters.

My in-laws lost all of their possessions in Hurricane Betsy's floodwaters (house was flooded for almost three weeks) and now they have lost everything they own again from Katrina.

It occurred to me that much of the Ninth Ward and St. Bernard Parish stood in floodwaters post-Betsy, yet there are many structures in those areas predating that storm by many years. I hope this means that the amount of demolition required post-Katrina won't be as extensive as suggested. Not to diminish the human tragedy, but it makes me sick to think of miles and miles of old homes with character and style that can't be duplicated being bulldozed.

I also am sick to think of the effects of the floodwaters on the beautiful old live oaks and stately palms that line the city's streets and neutral grounds (medians). I hope they won't all succumb to the saltwater, but I bet many will. I know they can be replaced, but it just won't be the same New Orleans.

Wow! That is a very interesting track she took.It is also amazing how far we have come with the satellite images as well, although I do like that you can see the stars in the background of that older one, never seen older satellite images like that before. Interesting.
