Heres the deal guys.... "DVORAK" (WHICH BY THE WAY SAID CHARLEY WAS A MINIMAL CAT 3 AT BEST...WHEN RECON FOUND A NEAR CAT 5) said 3.5/3.5 on Ophelia. Then, this morning...convection decreased, the dvorak went down to 3.0/3.5. Now, it has deepened again and it 3.5/3.5.
Dvorak is tricky...with a hurricane like CLAUDETTE 2003...even though convection was very light....winds were 90 mph. With Charley...convection (I GUESS) was not "BRIGHT" enough, and registered a 5.0/5.5 something like that. However, the storm was that of a 6.5/7.0 hurricane.
