Any news from Lindaloo? I know she must have had some impact from Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi.

Alot of her family had more damage to their properties than she did - even total losses. We were quite worried about her even though we knew she evacuated further inland.

Linda is one of those Gulf coast residents that always impresses me. A tropical system is days away from landfall and she's already implementing her plan. Taking her horses to another farm, etc. Getting ready, getting the shutters out of storage. I knew she was well prepared for Katrina. I prayed her home would be spared though, they've done so much work on it restoring it. But so many thousands of others have also. Lives are what matter and we know she's okay. Probably thinking of us but for now, she's got to be so busy.

Looking forward to hearing from her soon.

I'm thankful that Linda and her family did evacuate because having talked to Cindy over at WxChat she had talked to Linda while the 'cane was still out in the gulf and Linda had told her that she didn't think she would be evacuating.

Great call as always, Linda, on evacuating! :)

I did evacuate, but did not go too far. My parents lost everything. Several members of my immediate family completely lost their homes. My home is damaged and my pool is about 6 inches out of the ground. I also lost three horses.

The devastation here is horrific. What you see on TV does not even compare to what it is really like down here. Our churches, schools, post offices, gone or flooded. Childhood memories, gone.

I will never ever forget what the chief of police told me. He told me that when water started coming into the police department and it kept rising that he "knew my city was in trouble" When I was heading south on foot(only way in) waste deep water trying to get to my parents home and I looked up and saw the National Guard heading to the beach, I KNEW we were in trouble.

We had NO communications for at least two days. The linksystems were down for law enforcement, emergency services, which means they could not communicate with each other. There was NO 911 system, no land lines, no cell phones.

One by one my family members checked in. The point of check in was my parents home. As each came the news was grim. I had an Aunt and a cousin with her three children riding out the storm in Delmas Estates. The water started coming into the home and they went to the second floor. When the water was on the fifth step from the top they all gathered and started saying the rosary. My cousin who escaped New Orleans was staying with her stepmother on 14th street. When the water started rising they all held hands and prayed. One of our local bar owners, "Thunder" who owns Thunders Tavern is about 5 blocks from the beach. They have always used the bar as a shelter. He told me he was standing outside and saw this huge wall of water coming straight for them down Market Street. He said he had just enough time to run into the building and tell everyone to head for the attic door. His Mother and a few children went first. And then there is my friend Doc Overstreet. He is my dentist and a very good friend. He lives directly on the beach. When I heard that the beach front was devastated, I headed down there. I went to his home and I could not even find the front steps. I KNOW what he told me and that was he was not leaving the house. My heart sank!! I called everywhere looking for him. A week went by and still nothing from doc. I was just about to give up hope when he drove up in my driveway. Words cannot describe how I felt. He had in fact stayed in his home. He said about 5 Monday morning, something did not look right about the waves coming over the seawall. So, he got into his little Volkswagen Rabbit truck and headed for his office which is right across from Thunders Tavern.

Sorry, for this long post. I have lots to tell.

And for MSRobi911 ((((HUGS)))).

Hey 'lil Sister......I am so glad you checked in, as I said in the pm I was worried SICK about you, there hasn't been a day that I haven't thought about you and your family. I know there are no words, no amount of "I'm sorry's" that will ever replace what was lost, I know loosing material things is devastating, not to mention the loose of ones home but the main thing is that your alive and able to rebuild. I'm sorry for the loss of your precious animals, as Shawn said, we all know how much of a humanatarian you are when it comes to animals. Rest assured 'lil sister, your in our thoughts and prayers along with your family......I can only imagine the roller coaster of feelings that your experiencing right now. I'm glad you're safe. But I'm sorry for the losses you and yours have experienced. I know you'll come back stronger than ever from this, as my good friend Sandi is doing. Speaking of whom, I haven't seen her here in some time.

I can only imagine how difficult it was for you to even type this all out, even now. I am so sorry Lindaloo! My pm to you just this morning was made just before I read this so I didn't know about your horses when I asked about your animals.

We're all here for you! Let us know if you need anything!! (((HUGS))).

Linda,

It is so good to hear from you. But my heart just breaks for you all, your parents losing their house and everything, your childhood memories gone, your relatives who lost homes too. And finally, my heart really broke when you said you lost 3 horses. In fact I'm tearing up right now reading that. I know how much you love your animals - they are your family. The devastation and personal survival accounts you describe are something that is so hard to imagine I'm sure, until you live it. The scenes we are seeing on the news are heart wrenching to watch and I'm so very, very sad for you all. Please, oh please, let us know if you need anything....Thank God Doc was alright. I kept wanting to read further in your post, but feared he perished. What a miracle that was when he walked up to your house!

Hugs and prayers....you wouldn't believe how many asked about you here at S2K. You were really, really missed!

Wow Linda...you're just like that energizer bunny....no matter what happens you are able to keep on going and going and going and going and going.....i'm going to start calling you EBunnyloo!

I'm sorry to hear of the damage to your home and the loss of some of your families homes but you and your family are safe. You have each other and hopefully that will make the rebuilding of your lives easier. It makes me sad that you lost three of your horses. I know how much all your animals mean to you. You think that owl that hitched a ride with you was looking for a new home with you? :D
