My take is that the trough will nudge Ophelia NE, then SW. The building ridge will then force Ophelia back to the SW a la Jeanne, and push her to the GOM where it will regain cane strength and strike somewhere near the N.O area. I don't believe the trough will dig deep enough to pus Ophelia out to sea..JMHO..

We all know the old saying - if you don't have anything good to say, then better not to say anything at all.

The forecaster who wrote the 5 a.m. TCD is confident that the trough moving off the southeast coast will pick up Ophelia - let's hope so.

You said it frank, "if you don't have anything good to say, then better not to say anything at all." I trust DSUTHERLAND, and that is what I am basing my opinion on. Trough will nudge it, but will not take it out to sea, you'll see..

He has a disclaimer, and this is a possibility. There is nothing wrong with
stating a forecast like this- yes it is bad news for the Gulf Coast if it
pans out---> Making it more imperative that the possibilities of it
happening be discussed.

Since Jeanne, everyone's "loopy." It happened with Jeanne and Betsy--what makes it so likely to happen again? Methinks Ophelia isn't as 'trapped" as was jeanne--a trough may well pull her out to sea.

As for right now though...HIGHS are dominating in New England and the Mid Atlantic...

As of yet, there is no high confidence forecast by the NHC of a trough picking up Ophelia. It is just one possible scenario. The best guess by the NHC is that it will meander off the Florida or Georgia coast for several days.
