Alive and safe

#1 Postby bevgo » Sun Sep 04, 2005 10:47 pm

Hi all. I am alive and safe. Most of my family is accounted for--missing an uncle and 2 cousins but we believe they are OK. I always said I wanted to experience a hurricane but wanted to be in a very safe place to do it. Well I experienced the cane but not in a very safe place. My place of shelter refused my daughter, GS and me entry so er ended up having top shelter in the apartment in Ocean Springs MS. What a nightmare. We do not have a safe place in there so er spent the entire day in the kitchen at the back of the apartment since the wind was blowing toward the front. It was so horribly hot that I opened the sliding glass door and let the air in. I really believe that is what saved the windows as we were the only ones with windows left.

Giant pieces of sheet metal blowing by and hitting the front of the apartment. Many of the roof vent covers blew by, one landing in a tree outside the kitchen. I found 10 of these in the back of the apartment. Trees crashing down.. OMG it was terrifying.

This was the stupidest thing I have ever done and I may evack for thunderstorms from now on. I made it but after 3 days of the heat, crappy food, and little water.--BTW I ran out of cigarettes--LOL I couldnt take it anymore. My GS got sick and so did I and we got out. I am in Meridian MS with family till next week. The house in NO held up surprisingly well from what I heard. Little damage and no flooding. I am a blessed person.

Mu son and daughter both work for casinos so they are both unemployed at present but hubby and my jobs seem safe. More later. I just wanted to check in.

What a horrifying story bevgo. Im glad you made it through safe though, but your story was terrifying just to read.

All the best to you and your family as you guys try and recover from this lethal blow to your area.

On behalf of all Canadians, we wish you all the best.
You are in our prayers.

Bevgo:

I am so happy for you and your family's safe result from such a vicious storm. It sounded as if you had a horrifying experience. Believe me when I say you will never forget it but your mental health will recover with time.

My best wishes for you and yours. Stay strong and keep your faith.

Lynn

PS- as time permits, please let us know your situation, how you are getting online, how you evacuated, etc. (did you find cigarettes??? LOL) I'm sure many of us are very interested in first hand experiences and hopefully some will learn from them. Thanks.
