For any of you familiar with the area, does anyone know how Pass Christian, on Bayou Portage fared? We have a member who lives there. I don't know if she was evacuating or not. I can't get through to her home or cell numbers.
Also, has anyone heard anything about the hospitals in Biloxi? I heard they are all 3 miles or closer to the beach and one of our members had to be at work at one of them early Monday morning. Also, we believe she lives in the Woolmarket area. I can't get through to her home or cell phone either.
Another member was riding it out in Biloxi on Lafayette Street. Does anyone have any information about that particular area? I only have a cell phone number for him and can't get through.
Unfortunately, the majority of our members in the affected areas did not send their information for the Severe Weather Check-in Policy so we don't have a name or number and no way to check on them unless they post here or contact someone. I'm praying for each and every one though and hope we hear from them soon.

Here's a google map image of Lafeyette Street, and what I beleive to be a post damage image of the same area. I have marked Lafayette Street with the red line. Damage doesn't seem too bad in that area which is promising I guess...

I'm not very familiar with the Pass Christian area. I'm more familiar with Biloxi/Gulfport. Woolmarket is to the north of Biloxi (in fact it's north of I-10) and probably has some damage but not as catastrophic as along the Gulf. As for the hospitals, it could be Biloxi Regional Medical Center (which is just to the east of I-110 not too far north of Beach Blvd.) or Singing River Hospital just down the road in Pascagoula. From what we're hearing over here they are up and running. In fact on the news last night they were making pleas for supplies such as insulin, I.V. tubing, generators, and gasoline. Lafayette St. in Biloxi is near Keesler, I believe. They are very near Back Bay so they may have had some flooding there. I'm sorry. I wish I could be of more help. It's so tough here. I just found out today that a teacher who was my mentor years ago lost her family home. They lost everything. It just seems like everyday we hear another heartbreaking story from someone we know. I hope the folks who haven't checked in yet are alright and are just waiting for power to come back on.

OMG. That is terrible. I am so sorry to hear about her home. And I am a HUGE animal lover and I am so sorry about her pets. I am glad that she is okay though.Janice wrote:I don't know if this is the right place to post this.
BillieJeanne lost her home and car. They are underwater. Her pets drowned too. She left Biloxi and is staying with friends in Florida.
She said she will come in the chatroom tonight.

Hi all. I am alive and safe. Most of my family is accounted for--missing an uncle and 2 cousins but we believe they are OK. I always said I wanted to experience a hurricane but wanted to be in a very safe place to do it. Well I experienced the cane but not in a very safe place. My place of shelter refused my daughter, GS and me entry so er ended up having top shelter in the apartment in Ocean Springs MS. What a nightmare. We do not have a safe place in there so er spent the entire day in the kitchen at the back of the apartment since the wind was blowing toward the front. It was so horribly hot that I opened the sliding glass door and let the air in. I really believe that is what saved the windows as we were the only ones with windows left.
Giant pieces of sheet metal blowing by and hitting the front of the apartment. Many of the roof vent covers blew by, one landing in a tree outside the kitchen. I found 10 of these in the back of the apartment. Trees crashing down.. OMG it was terrifying.
This was the stupidest thing I have ever done and I may evack for thunderstorms from now on. I made it but after 3 days of the heat, crappy food, and little water.--BTW I ran out of cigarettes--LOL I couldnt take it anymore. My GS got sick and so did I and we got out. I am in Meridian MS with family till next week. The house in NO held up surprisingly well from what I heard. Little damage and no flooding. I am a blessed person.
Mu son and daughter both work for casinos so they are both unemployed at present but hubby and my jobs seem safe. More later. I just wanted to check in.
