It's not about being a hurricane fan, it's the facination and awe of the wrath of mother nature at her deadliest. I will always be facinated and in awe of such power in nature. HOWEVER, I own property, I have a family, I love my community and job, I care for others' well being. I don't want another but considering where I live I have no choice in that matter. Katrina's devastation is scaring the hell out me but I still have the facination about hurricanes and will always watch them, track them, and LIVE with them for the rest of my life. If I ever had a choice I would vote NO.

sure I'd love to see a head on hit first hand but come on I live in New Jersey

Floyd was the closest I was to a full fledged hurricane about 60 miles

But for anything over 125 I'm gone

I could take a good 74 to 95 mph winds in any hurricane I would want to be in. I wouldn't mind tropical storms, I have even though about hurricane chasing, but only tropical storms and cat 1s, my life just seems to important to remain in any cat 2+.

A category 1 hurricane can kill as well, Katrina being an apt example when it crossed Southern Florida killing 7 people. A tropical storm or even a tropical depression with it's torrential rain can easily kill, i.e. Tropical Storm Allison, which by the way was a tropical depression when it wreaked its worst damage in Houston, as well as Louisiana. No more hurricanes or tropical storms for awhile.

Good thing there's been persistent shear in parts of the Atlantic Basin! Also, most models - thankfully - continue to anticipate a ridge weakness.

Hurricanes are awesome forces of nature.
If I had a choice between hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunami, tornadoes or even blizzards, I will choose a hurricane.
I can get out of the way and I'm resourceful enough to rebuild a life afterwards.

Why hate any of it?
It's (the sheer force of nature) all out of our mere mortal hands.
The destruction and primitive behavior that follows any disaster is related only to the culture that it dwells in.
If a human cannot fend for themselves and care for kin, then the fate that actually befalls them, still is only of their own making.
If one cannot make good choices about caring for themselves, then they cannot do so for others.
When a person is wise and resourceful for themselves, then others will likely benefit, also.

In all adverse conditions, the best and worst will come out...
And the sun shall rise tomorrow.

I voted yes. I still have not seen an eye and the sheer awesomeness of the mechanics behind a hurricane astound me. I would still chase although would perhaps make better preperations for the affect of storm surge.

its very difficult for non-weather enthusiasts to understand when I say that I love studying hurricanes because it gives them the impression that I like the destruction that hurricanes cause which is absolutely not true. I really love to learn about why they form and why they do what they do but I honestly felt very miserable before and after Katrina hit the gulf coast.
