I've always liked and admired her.......didn't realize she was born and raised in New Orleans until now.

Didn't want to post this over at the Aftermath forum but if that's where it really belongs, mods please move it. It just seemed more celeb driven than anything. But what a kind heart she has.

Miss Mary,
She is such a wonderful human being. Last year, she was trying to raise money for hurricane victims as well, including the pets! There is an organization - Noah's something-can't remember that is specifically for the animal survivors of hurricanes-and she was all over it. She is raising money for America's Second Harvest as well.
I used to hate my name, but Ellen has made me proud to have the same name as her!

Ellen, I'd say so - you should be proud to share a first name with her.
And I still say this is where Tom Cruise could redeem himself here. Apologizing for having lost his mind momentarily, and finally helping others. But he won't.....
Ellen steps up to the plate however.....she has my utmost respect.

Yup, and I'm sure many more will soon also. We can't all do what the celebs can, but every bit we do helps. It's just nice to see them being so generous (oughta change her name to Ellen the Generous!) when people usually give them such a hard time over things like Napster, movie bootlegging, file-sharing, etc. I hear people argue that "They're rich...how's it going to hurt them?" Well, they got that way because so many of us paid to see their movies or hear their songs or whatever. And if ya take that away with piracy and bootlegging, they wouldn't be rich.
So, I'm glad that she's opened her heart and wallet.

DOING HER PART: Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres has announced that when her syndicated chatfest begins its third season on Monday, part of the program will be devoted to raising funds for the American Red Cross' hurricane-relief effort. The Metairie, La., native's production company, Warner Bros., already has donated $500,000 to the campaign and will match viewer contributions up to that amount. There are also plans to solicit donations during the DeGeneres-hosted Emmy telecast airing Sept. 18.
