I'm back-power finally back on

#1 Postby cajungal » Thu Sep 01, 2005 11:30 am

We finally got our power back around 10 p.m. last night. We were one of the fortunate ones. Only very minor damage in Terrebonne Parish. Just had some power lines out, and a lot of trees down. Most people already cleaned that up and you can't really tell anything happened here. Life is returning back to normal here. It could of been a lot of worse here. If Katrina would just went a tad bit more to the west, we could have the devestation here that New Orleans and MS coast saw.

But, while I am feeling thankful for us here, I am just devastated for New Orleans and MS. Since we just got our power back on, this is the first time I am getting to watch the damage on TV. My grandparents, uncle and cousin live in Kiln, MS right outside Picayune. They are staying at their old house right now in Marksville, LA (central Louisiana) They were trying to sell the house after moving to MS, but lucky for them it did not sell yet. So, at least they have a roof over their head. Because they may not have a home. My aunt and her friend evacated from New Orleans. (The Kenner area) by Lake Ponchatrain. They probably don't have a home as well. Lots of my other family also have homes in the New Orleans area and don't know the status.

Another source of bad news- My cousin and husband evacated from their home in Thibodaux, LA with their 3 kids. (The same kids in my gallery photo with me.) Well, they evacuated to Dallas, TX. Their 3-year old little girl had a seisure while there and they almost lost her. She never had a seisure before. They had to call 911. Well, while they were in the hospital in Dallas with their little girl, someone broke into their van. They tried to hotwire it and broke the window. They were unable to steal it. They stole their camcorder with all their family videos, plus my cousin's backpack which contained their social security card, all their cash, credit cards, checkbook, license, etc... They don't know what they are going to do. The only good news-my little 3-year old cousin does NOT have a tumor. She is going to be okay. They are going to put her on medicine for a year.

CajunGal

I just read a post you put on another thread about how your dad made you wait at Sears with your dog to get a Generator that you have never used. I assume you are finally using it now.

I never thought about a generator b4 Ivan but now that I have it I have used it three times already for emergancies(Ivan, Dennis, Katrina).

Yes, we finally got to use our generator. Our very first time. We were without power for 3 days after Katrina. But, that is nothing at all to complain about. I am more concerned about my family and other people that lost their homes. At least, I got a roof over my head for now. It could of been a lot worse. And hurricane season is still not over yet.
