I am safe! We are still with electricity but I am running the computer on the generator.

Scary moments. We actually spotted a tornado near our house yesterday. Fairhope was badly damage by the Beach. We were lucky. No damage at my house except a few trees. The people who live near or on the beach lost their houses and personal belongings. I witness one young mom today picking up her daughter baby pictures from her yard near my mom's house. They had floated out of her house on Mobile Bay/Eastern Shore. The Fairhope Yacht Club is pretty much gone. A lot of boats are gone. Unbelievable my dad's sailboat survived but is not in it slip anymore. It is tied to the slip but is in another slip on the other side. My uncle's boat is still there in the slip but none of the other boats are. I have pictures and will post later.

Anyone familiar with the Big Pier in Fairhope. I couldn't get close enough but have some pics that I will post later. But the concrete bottom was washed out. The Marriot/Grand Hotel in Point Clear looks bad but I don't think anyone has been able to get in there. Many of those homes are badly damage or destroyed. I can't believe what this storm surge in Mobile Bay did.

My neighbors to the West of me in Mobile, Mississippi, and Louisana were badly damage from what I can tell on the News Reports coming out. I see the damage here and just can't even begin to imagine what it is like over there. Tonight I am thankful I still have a very hot house to go back to.

It is beyond anything you can imagine... they haven't even reached a lot of areas yet. Things are going from bad to worse in the New Orleans area...

Glad your safe.

Fairhope flooding

#4 Postby happy1965 » Tue Aug 30, 2005 4:59 pm

I heard a newscaster say that there was four feet of water in the Grand Hotel. From what you can tell were the homes between the bay and the Grand Hotel on Fairhope Avenue flooded? That would be west of the Grand Hotel.

Beach...I'm soooo glad your ok.

I proposed to my wife on the Orange Street Pier in 1993. We grew up there, went to school there...If the Fairhope pier is that bad, I'm sure the Orange street peir is now gone :(

Whats worse is I now feel selfish to feel bad for loosing something of sentiment, when others lost much worse and will loose much worse, including lives.
