Hams helping out.

As a ham radio operator, this afternoon has been full of activity. Mostly from hams helping out.

At this time, not much info is coming out besides life threatening traffic. (Such as a recent report of a man trapped on the roof of the Southern (SUNO)University Auditorium in NOLA.)

Health and Welfare traffic will certainly follow, but right now no information is available, and there is a definite need for immediate help as peoples lives are in jeopardy.

I'll try to keep updating, and maybe reports like this can help those in need.

dolebot,

2 nights ago, I contacted every news source I could to encourage the use of ham freq's on home scanners and handhelds; and to let people know how important hams are at a time like this. Alas, only one source said anything and they botched the main repeater information I gave them.

As an active Skywarn participant (ham license in the works) I know all too well how vital you guys and gals are. Lets hope someone gets a clue soon.

I believe that the Salvation Army is handling some Health and Welfare traffic on 14.365 USB AND 7.290 LSB.

3.935 MHz reported for Health and Welfare Traffic.
3.873 MHz reported for the Emergency net, they just changed frequencies from 7.285 MHz.

SATERN (the salvation army) (14.285 MHZ) reported the man trapped on the roof. SATERN also said they may change frequencies to 80 meters soon as 20 meters is losing propagation.
