Superdrome under 3 feet of water

Been listening to the live streaming all day and it was just announced the superdrome was under 3 feet of water.

Where do you see this FL_Brit? The link you provided says the Superdome is SURROUNDED by 3 feet of water, but makes no mention of the water being IN the dome. Did I miss something?

Field level of the dome is 18 feet above street level...still got a ways to go before it gets in

Story at the link said that people were being alowed to go outside to walk around and get some fresh air. Obviously there is not 3 feet of water where the walkway is. It sounds like conditions inside the dome are getting a little ugly. I hope they have a good plan. It's going to get really hot inside there today. I hope they have some big fans that run on batteries or something. BTW, in case anyone is interested the San Antonio paper is reporting that the Saints have a contingency plan to play their home opener in the Alamdome if necessary.

Am afraid it will get worse in the next 24 hours as I posted over 10hours ago - check it out.....as flood water runs down to the sea.

I have also been listening to the stream. Horrific

They said that the city is flooded with feet of water over almost the entire city and unfortunately fires are raging across areas of the city as firefighters either cannot reach them or are not able to put them out as they are too busy in other areas. Highway 90 from MS is completely and utterly destroyed. Medical care in the city is pretty much unavailable. Also there is apparently 3 feet of water in the Superdome. According to the local tv: the lake continues to flow into the city through the two breaches and water will consider to spread across the city, literally filling bowl as the water is going to spread out across the city until the areas have more uniform flooding. They also say that due to the tremendous stress on the levees, further levee breaks are possible. Officials are urging those still in New Orleans to leave. The only way out is through the "Crescent City Connection." (There is no way into the city). There is also concern (eventually) about some limited flooding from the Mississippi as it rises from rainwater to the north. Those in the Superdome will be there for "a long time." They hope that the refugees in the Superdome will remain calm (Again, this is not according to me, this is according to the local news). At least two people inside the Superdome have died. "This is bad as it gets people."

Crews are hoping to plug the levees by dropping 3000lb sandbags from helicopters.

Fire ants "band together" and form a little raft (looks like a ball of ants) that keeps them afloat.

You are correct, dont forget about the snakes and "super" termites.

Fire ants sting, and the stings REALLY REALLY hurt. You get little blisters from them.

They bite like a you-know-what and it stings.

They don't need to swim. They can walk over the water. Racking my brain now to remember a short story I read in 5th or 6th grade about a farmer whose land was being inundated by fire ants. They crossed over a creek towards his home and kept coming. He ended up digging a trench around his property and filling it with gasoline ("petrol" in the story, so I'm sure it wasn't a US author) and then lighting it up to burn them.

Also, I'm sure they'll ravage whatever food they find. And considering the people sheltered there didn't bring much, they want to keep whatever they have safe.
