Flooding going to get worse!
Over the next 24 hours the flooding will get worse.
In a few hours high tide will happen again on the South coast.
Flood rain water from in land will run down the Mississippi and try and escape into the sea. However, as there is severe coast flooding along the Mississippi and the coast the water will have no where to go! So flooding the coastal areas will get worse.
Additionally if the levee break of 200yards or feet (what ever they decided on in the end) continues to leak the surrounding wall of the levee will sustain greater pressure as the water will flow very fast creating a vacuum flooding into NO. I just hope the initial break isn't widened due to the build up pressure.
Also sediment from Katrin will increase as the water tries to find away to dissipate. Clogging up drains, water channels etc....
But there is hope day break will see the National Guard enter NO and the surrounding area I hope and a proper rescue effort.

Given the magnitude of this disaster, I am having trouble imagining what a proper rescue might look like. The Mayor of NO is stating that they are overwhelmed and do not know how everyone will get out of the city.
Exacerbating the disaster at this time, following the order to evacuate, CNN is telling people it may be few days before they can go home. A spokesman for the city has already stated it will be months before those in the east end will be able to go home.
What did I tell you! They need to evacuate! Get the army in! Where are they?
I know I'm going to get my hand slapped for stating this fact. Most of the US Armed Forces are in Iraq. It is a real potential that so few of our forces remain at home that it will hamper rescue efforts by the military.
On the other hand, it will simply take time to mount the massive effort that will be necessary address this catastrophe. I'm not sure many are comprehending the magnitude of this disaster. There is no proper preplanned strategy for coping. There could not be.

I heard on the news last night that a diaster plan they had been in the wings incase USSR launched an attack on USA was going to be implemented and also a disaster evacuation plan had been reviewed int he last 2 years and was to be instigated...but very little action!
The levees are going to continue to break unless the relieve the pressure on them....not sure what the answer is.
3 feet of water surrounds the superdome

1/3 of the Louisiana Guard is deployed overseas, leaving 2/3ds, roughly 6500, that are available to assist with this crisis. 3,500 of them are already activated. Not to mention the roughly 9000 Alabaman guardsmen next door and available for call up. The National Guard reports that it has almost 100,000 guardsmen in the South alone that can be activated for the relief and rescue operations.
And wwicko, there are roughly 1.5 million active members of the military (and I'm not even including the USCG), with what... just over 100,000 in Iraq. What "fact" are you talking about? I think that the only fact displayed by your post is that wwicko doesn't know what he's talking about and has a serious mathematics problem.

I don't think it will even be possible to put New Orleans back in shape to be reinhabited before next spring, and very possibly not for a year or more. This is a staggering disaster, and we don't even know how big it is yet.
I just made a sizeable donation to the Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund. I suggest that others should do the same. The costs of this relief effort are going to be unbelievably high.
