The video of Mr Jackson was recorded by a reporter from TV 5 in Mobile which is our local CBS affiliate. It was on last night and I fear that there are many more people in Mr Jackson's situation.

Mississippi and the Big Easy will never be the same.

Since I can't find the video, is it the one with the coloured man and his two kids, and he is telling a women reporter how their house split and he lost his wife? The reporter started crying if I remember correctly.

I was trying to tell my parents about this video at breakfast this morning and just lost it.

God help us.

Synopsis: Slim man (Mr. Jackson) in a t-shirt with two kids by his side talking to a blond female reporter. This isn't word for word, but the general gist:

Reporter: What happened?
Mr. Jackson: The house just split in two.
Reporter: What?
Mr. Jackson: The water came up in there and the house just broke in half. It just split away (motions with hands)
Reporter: Who was in there with you?
Mr. Jackson (anguished): My wife
Reporter: Your wife was with you? Where is she now?
Mr. Jackson: She's gone, we can't find her body.
Reporter: Wait-what happened?
Mr. Jackson: I was holding her hand, and she just said "Baby you can't hold me any more. Take care of the kids" and she was gone.
Reporter (visibly upset and voice cracking): Ok.....please, can you tell me her name so we can get it out there?
Mr. Jackson: (says name)
Reporter (still crying): Ok, where are you going to go?
Mr. Jackson, wailing and waving his hands in desparation: "I don't know...I lost everything I had and I got no place to go...."

I saw this on the "Your e-mails: Hurricane Katrina" section of cnn:

A friend of ours recently lost his wife and was left with five children to raise. To do that, he took a job in Iraq for six months, leaving the children with his elderly mother. When I saw the news clip of Harvey Jackson, whose wife's last words were for him to take care of the kids, my heart broke and I was reminded of my friend. If Mr. Hardy Jackson can be located, and if someone can help him and his children to get to Atlanta, my husband and I have a 2 bedroom rental unit that he can live in for a couple months rent free so he can him start over and take care of the kids. Of course he will need other assistance such as furniture, and food. If the Red Cross or other agencies can help with food, clothing, and other basic supplies, we will help to provide some basic furniture and assist him in finding a job.

The Halls of Georgia give me faith in the human race, and I hope they find Mr. Jackson.

That total stranger would do that for another stranger is just ..... wow.

I am humbled. :notworthy:

I was on the way home from work this morning and a local radio station played this interview. I usually consider myself some sort of emotional tough guy, ex-military and all. I bawled up and couldn't see the road for the tears.
