I feared this would happen. Most of the deaths in NO will be of the poor who had no transportation and weren't able to take advantage of getting to the Supderdome. Yes there were bus pickups but if you're an elderly grandma raising a few kids (and your neighboors had no cars either) it's hard to try and walk to a stop if it's not close.
I wouldn't be surprised at nearly 500 deaths from Katrina period when it's all said and done.

I think the flooding has caught everyone by surprised as most thought it wouldn't be bad if NO didn't get the w-ern eyewall pushing Lake Ponchartrain into the city. I hope there aren't any levee failures but I have to imagine they're under tons of stress as they weren't meant to act as dams.

Sad to say there are some levee failures. Many different news stations have been reporting that the water is still raising. The mayor confermed that the water that is pumped out of the city is finding it way back into the city. This is only adding to the problem.

Yes... and we've seen or heard NOTHING from there.
The CNN met said that there are million dollar homes in the bay st louis..and they say the waves we're highest between sidell and gulfport.
That is scary..the flyby's tomorrow will tell the tale.
Million dollar homes in BSL, Pass Christian, and Long Beach along the beachfront. Diamondhead is also in Hancock County, very near the Harrison/Hancock line. Kiln is just north of Diamondhead.
Not hearing anything from or about home is very, very scary.
