It is MUCH worse than the reporters were claiming this afternoon.

The reporters were in the Quarter, which survived relatively well because of its location on high ground.

I'm literally sick.

Crazy part is all day the TV Reporters kept saying how N.O escaped the brunt of the storm and had very little damage even as the video was coming in showing much of the city underwater...have no idea why they were saying that

For those who around noon today asserted that NO had narrowly escaped 'the big one', that interview illustrates that the worst case has more or less occurred. The long term chronic damage was indeed done to NO. Very unfortunate

If this was a category 3/4, then what would have 175 mph winds have done? We have to count our blessings even in the midst of tragedy.

Thats the thing, I dont think the 175 mile an hour winds would have made to much of a difference in the grand scheme of things. This storm is actualy worse then originally predicted. 80 percent of NO is underwater, plus the whole coast of Mississppi got Leveled. Its gotta ba thousands of deaths from this storm.

The "Hi Rise" mentioned by the mayor is a bridge on I-10 that was hit by a barge.

Two Block Long Break in Levee near 17th Street canal. Water is flowing into New Orleans. They pump the water out. It comes back in through the breach. A circular motion.

Everything north of I-10 is totally submerged. Up to 20 feet.

Numerous dead bodies in the water. Need to set up temporary morgues to prevent disease.

I think some of the people who were minimizing the storm earlier were not fully aware (a kind way of saying "clueless") about the geography of the area and why what they received in New Orleans would still be considered catastrophic. The city didn't have to be completely flattened by the most extreme winds to have experienced a horrible tragedy with regard to massive flooding from breaches in the levees, and that seems to be what's transpiring now.

Very sad.

Uhhh, the twin span IS the I-10 bridge from NOLA to Slidell crossing eastern Lake Pontchartrain.
