should NOLA be under martial law??? looking at the TV theres tons of people walking around and ignoring the curfew.This is going to be a huge problem and i suspect that the looting is going to be rampant tonight unless they get it under control very soon.Martial law is extreme yes but it certainly gets the point across

Matrial law is normally decleared in disaster situations so I expect it to be done soon if it hasn't already.

So far, no Scuttlebutt at Ft.Bragg on this issue. I would expect it soon, however, if this goes anyway like Andrew. The 82nd ready brigade is, well, always ready.

now now....(patting back) We don't want to get political here. There is too much destruction and sorrow here as it is.
There are still troops. There is the 82nd Abn Ready Brigade who are deployable within 24 hours notice(or less). These are the same people who went to Homestead after Andrew. Set up tent cities,food lines, created some martial law enforcement, as well as aided in rebuilding. May be pushing the limits of our troops but, I am sure they will be more then happy to aid states in the US.

Actually it's a good and valid point and this is coming from a military reservist. The guard and reserve has been so stripped because of operational requirements overseas that it has left the guard severely underequipped and undermanned in many states. I'm not sure the situation in LA but many western states for example have been very concerned that the forces they depend on to fight forest fires won't be available. Keep in mind that the majority of the guard and reserve are support units.

These units are the field kitchens, sanitation, water treatment, field laundy, heavy lift equipment, ect...It may have been a political statement but it is a fair observation that we are going to have trouble getting adequet equipment and personnel into the area.

Thank you. My comment was not really meant to be a political statement but instead an observation about a situation with our military that should be recognized and acknowledged regardless of political persuasion. In fact, you might be surprised about mine.
