Ebay and Katrina - Oh Brother!!

#1 Postby ConvergenceZone » Mon Aug 29, 2005 3:26 pm

Went to check ebay this morning and saw some Katrina auctions out there. Here we go!! Here is an example of one. The sad part is, somebody will probably bid on this!! Did a search on Hurricane Katrina and it pulled up over 100 matches.

But.... I am proud for the good souls out there! I saw quite a few Hurricane Katrina donations! I hope we see more good than bad from the use of ebay.

My question is.. If they open up the jar of wind.. Will it send them crashing into a wall from the pressure?

I just hope to god that the people on there asking for hurricane donations in their auctions will actually use it for such and not just to put money in their own pocked.

I remember when hurricane Charley hit, I saw several auctions saying things like "T shirt for sale. All money going towards hurricane as a donation". Some of the people were bidding on the shirts and a few people asked for some type of receipt showing a donation has been made and the guy holding the auction said that he couldn't provide one and they would just have to to take his word for it. The auctions were eventually pulled.

LOL, what's even funnier, is how they did capture the wind in the container? :). Did they just spin around in a circle really fast with the open container in one hand and then just close the lid real fast?

Ebay pulled the item, and that's BS. You can go to a Rest Area on Florida's turnpike and buy a can of 'Florida Sunshine' That's right, they are selling empty cans. I don't really see the difference between this and that.

As to the hurricane donation - you are making one - to a genuine hurricane survivor. Seriously folks, when you go to any major retailer and they promise any type of donation, who get's the tax credit - you who actually paid for the donation through your purchase, or the business. You guessed it - the business, and you don't get a copy of the receipt, either.

At least there are some good things related to Katrina on there, though. I did a search for "Hurricane Katrina" and found a couple of things whose proceeds would partially go to the relief fund. So it's not all BS, fortunately.

EDIT: Oops, just saw that you guys were already talking about this. Hopefully they are credible, and not just people trying to get money the lame way.

Uh, it is different in that the "Sunshine" is an obvious piece of tourist "crap" if you will. The Katrina stuff that doesn't help survivors is just morally wrong. Yes, the "jar of wind" is "like" a can of sunshine, but getting a few bucks and some chuckles out of tourists and their friends back home is WAY DIFFERENT than cashing in on an event in which hundreds if not thousands have died.

Lol. Honestly, I sold dollar store toe nail clippers on ebay for $30, claiming they were Elvis Presley's. People will do anything.
