He also said he hadn't heard that any of the casinos had broken free.

He said I wish they had all evacuated :(

I heard him mention he had instructed the National Guard and State Police to deal with looters "ruthlessly".

I certainly don't have a problem with that.

As compared to Camille (I know, I know - the stats are different - but still) - search the web and read the stories of bodies floating by people as they hung to tree limbs, etc. And, with Camille being 39 years ago, MANY people do not have any idea of the total devastation that storm surge can cause (even though up until yesterday there were still places on the coast that had steps and fireplaces left as a reminder from Camille). I think they ought to make it mandatory that everyone who decides to stay after an evacuation order read those accounts of what can happen. Unfortunately, we now have another chapter to add to the storms of devastation and loss of life book.

Gov. Barbour said his biggest *fear* was that there *would be* a lot of dead bodies out there. Nothing confirmed yet.

Yeah, I don't see how there could be a confirmation on that this quickly. A few more hours, and then the assesment may begin.

Thanks for clearing that up, jacindc - since almost everyone was prepared, hopefully this will not be the case.

12:45 p.m.: There Could Be 'A Lot Of Dead People'
Hurricane Katrina is now on a path that will take it through Mississippi. And the governor says if his worst fears are true, there could be "a lot of dead people" along the coast. Gov. Haley Barbour said the storm hit Mississippi "like a ton of bricks." It brought a 22-foot storm surge, blew out the windows of a hospital, and left sailboats on a four-lane highway. -- Associated Press
