Buoy 42040: WVHT 47.2FT!!!

Wave Height at 47 feet, then it didn't report a wave height during its latest report... Dern...

How high a wave can these things record?

wave height at 47 feet... pretty high considering this buoy was 74 nautical miles from the center of Katrina at the time of the observation

Thanks Pebs, didn't know wave heights were that high with Ivan, but am definitely familiar with the tornado activity he had...

other buoys failing

If I'm not mistaken, that buoy has come un-moored (one of them in the area of the MS River delta has an alert notice saying that happened today). Two other land-based locaitons -- Grand Isle and one other to the SE -- look like they failed earlier this morning a few hours before the eye made landfall. Now, I can't even get the NDBC web page to load. So I guess that tells you all you need to know. Scary
