Getting A Sick Feeling

About the people in the Superdome  I think Katrina will do damage to it and some will lose their lives. The decision to turn it into a makeshift evacuati0n center has bothered me all day

Excerpt from Georges Hits Mississippi - Online Newshour PBS

"Thousands of New Orleans residents are in shelters, including those who sought refuge in the Louisiana Super Dome, built to withstand 200-mile-per-hour winds."

I hope so.

I relate to your feeling, I, too, have been uneasy about the situation and sit in disbelief that a city so vulnerable to a major hurricane have only this building to shelter its citizens with and ages old levy systems that engineers have clearly said cannot stand up to such an event.... why then haven't they been doing something or planning to do somthing about it all this time? Maybe I'm just ignorant but it seems bizarre to me.. like standing under a tree forever looking skyward and "hoping" that a bird never drops by to make a mess on your shoulder.

Unfortunately, they never promised it to be a totally safe place, just a place to go when you cant get out of town -- we shall all see what happens :(

Can you even imagine what its going to be like in the dome. The water will rise and cover the bottom and the wind will start howling and the lights will probably go out. Definitely not a comfortable place, but as they kept stating a "place of last resort".

I am pretty sure they dont have back-up -- the people that went to the Dome were never promised comfort -- just a place a little higher than the rest of NO.

Yep, and when they lose power they will have only enough generator power to run the emergency lights. No air conditions. And 100 bathrooms to take care of the bodily needs of 100,000 people. That 1,000 people per bathroom...with no ventilation or air conditioning.

No wonder they searched all those people for weapons.

Try khou.com. Khou is a sister station and they are also running the wwl-tv feed. I got a better connection through that website.

WWLTV is still streaming. They just moved to operation to Baton Rouge -- LSU. It was cutting in and out on me earlier. This was a planned move. They went to BR early today.
