the storm is falling apart. i am betting the pressure has risen 10-20 millibars and sustained winds are in the 130-140 range.

a little sheer is starting to interfere with it. great news. it's amazing how many bullets the gulf coast is dodging with lily, ivan, dennis, and opal... now katrina... all really losing their punch before coming in.

Where can I find updated map that shows how much damage there will be and where? Our main house and all our stuff is in mississippi as my dad still lives there and comes to florida on weekends? Is structural damage going to be bad there! Are we going to loose a lot you think?

Didn't want to start a new thread for this. I went to the NHC's ftp site and downloaded their 17MB animated GIF on a projected Katrina path with surge using SLOSH. I edited out half the images or more and got it to 5MB:

http://myweb.cableone.net/nolasue/katsurge.gif

As you can see, somewhat less than 25 ft at GPT and only 4-6 ft in Mobile Bay.

Katrina is a smart, strong hurricane, I just can't believe that this worse case scenario seems to be happening. I can't imagine what tomorrow will be like.

a little sheer is starting to interfere with it. great news. it's amazing how many bullets the gulf coast is dodging with lily, ivan, dennis, and opal... now katrina... all really losing their punch before coming in.

Keep thinking like that... because there is ZERO evidence.

THIS IS NOT, FOR THE LAST TIME, LILI/IVAN/DENNIS/OPAL...

Brent you know better to leason to them. you know what is going on they don't have a clue. What you call them trolls?

With that said I think it will get higher winds around 2am you will see if not sooner.

But is it an Ethel???

(This is comedic relief BTW, not based on any accurate weather information. Ethel BTW occurred in 1960, was a storm that was supposedly a Cat 5 but weakened to a TS right at landfall, but records weren't right or something.)

My guest on what recon will find...

They will find the system slightly better defined. With flight level winds strong enough to hold onto the 160 if not 165 mph. In a pressure around 903 or 903 millibars.

I am sure alot of us will have the same sick feeling tomorrow watching Katrina arrive, much as we did on Tuesday 9/11/01.
