yeah im watching FNC, there saying the line on both sides are several blocks long to get in. At this rate no way they are going to get everyone in before the T.S. force winds start hitting. At what point do they stop checking peoples bags and such and tell them to get inside as quickly as possible?

You know it's easy to criticize those people who make decisions sitting here safely in front of our computers without any pressure. There are probably many more factors involved than what you think there are.
As for not using the Superdome...where else are you going to put all those people????

I think I would rather be outside on a rooftop than inside the Superdome.
Last time they opened it as a hurricane shelter people torn it up. They stole anything and everything that could be moved. Broke into the luxury boxes and concessions and looted them like crazy. I fear the same thing happening again.

I can't imagine what it's going to be like in there when the power goes out, the a/c goes off, the water starts coming in. I can't imagine how panic won't break out.
God help those people.
I thought closing the contraflow was a bad idea, but they showed the roads and they were mostly empty. I feel bad that so many people could not get a ride out of town and had to go to the Superdome. I can't imagine that a lot of them really don't understand that that building is vulnerable.

I am glad I am not in the position of the Mayor there... Kat has turned into a nightmare for him. No matter what choices he made he was going to be critisized for it. Thousands of people needed a place to go with obviously no great place to put them. He had to put them somewhere. Many complaints of this should have been planned ahead of time... but the truth of the matter is how does anyone ever plan for something of this magnatude. I think the best thing we all can do now is hope for the best and pray for the safety of those in the path of mother natures distuctive force.

New Orleans is a very difficult city for anyone outside the "Big Easy" to understand. The population there is unique in that many of those born in 'Nawlins have never been outside the city or area. They don't want to leave. I feel for the officials trying to provide for those either unable or unwilling to leave the city. A baaaaaaddddd situation. The Superdome has a huge potential for being a disaster, whether the building holds up or not. Fortunately many have left. I live along I-10 on the Texas/Louisiana border and the traffic is heavy heading west toward Houston. We will be talking about this one 30 years from now.
