What the Hades is going on??

#1 Postby Downdraft » Sun Aug 28, 2005 3:31 pm

I'm looking at live evacuation pictures and I see one side of the road totally empty and the other side grid locked. Are they so stupid in Louisana they can't get both sides going the same direction? I think they were hours late in the evacuation notices to begin with but this is pure stupidity! Glad I live in Florida.

I am GRAVELY concerned... Jim Cantore reports gridlock on I-10 in the Gulfport/Biloxi area.

That is unfortunate. I65 reverses southbound lanes during hurricane evacuations. I was sure New Orleans would do the same, especially being that they have to evacuate everyone.

I don't understand that either. I just told my husband if it were me, I would be flying down that side. it's like 4 empty lanes? Why?

This is terrifying. It's got everyone down here talking about Luis again.

Just looking at NWS long range loop out of NOLA< I am seeing more NNW move...

NOW..if this storms only makes it to say, 89.5W, my thinking is that it will take out Biloxi, Gulfport and NO in one stunning punch...why?

The storm and eye are so big, Biloxi and Gulfport will most certainly catch the brunt of the RFQ, and NO will get the NE wind push to send Lake P over the levees...

quite a bad spot for it to come in, not that anywhere else is better.

My fear of a nightmare scenario is showing signs of coming true. I have a gut feeling many deaths will occur from Katrina :(

MSNBC is reporting that one side of I-10 is absolutely at a stand still and the other side is totally empty. I hope they crucify someone when this is over cause the idiots that created this plan are gonna kill a lot of people. Miles of gridlocked highway on one side and barren 4 lines on the other. It is absolute insanity that they don't start shifting traffic. You shut of the entrance ramps and you start crossing traffic over the median.

I said yesterday at 3:15 when my tv was scrolling that Orleans Parish had made no decision re: evacuation that it was criminal. What has happened today is worse. They announce mandatory evacuation this morning, then stop contraflow (opening both sides of the interstate) this afternoon AND they closed Hwy. 90 leaving the City as you got out of town AND they wouldn't let anyone get on I-10 east, forcing everyone on I-59 north. The governor, the mayor, and especially the city attorney who was still advising at 10 last night that they had no illegal authority for a mandatory evacuation should be indicted if they are still alive or the courts in New Orleans still exist.

Why did they stop the contraflow? This doesn't make sense. I'm literally feeling sick when I look at these pictures. The scene outside the dome is horrific. They can't get multiple lines going to get the people inside. This is an emergency situation.

They didn't open the westbound lane of I-26 when Charleston evacuated from Floyd and it took some people over 16 hours to get to Columbia (a normally 2 hour drive).
I hope somebody gets their head out of the sand soon because that wait S-U-C-K-E-D.
Luckily we left late and took the highway that paralleled 26 and made it in 6 hours, but still 6 hours for a 2 hour drive!!
I feel for those people - especially the ones who are pregnant or have kids!!

Yes. And that reversal was excellent!

My sister-in-law left Lower Lafourche parish at 8:30 this morning. At 3:30 she had made it to morgan city La. That is usually a 1.0 hour trip. Needless to say traffic is gridlock. She chose to go to deridder instead of here to BR but I am so glad she finally decided to leave this morning. I pleaded with her to leave yesterday but she wanted to wait. I understand the reluctance but I knew traffic would get bad today.
