Have tried to find a definition of an annular hurricane with little luck. Can someone explain what this is?

basically a hurricane that grows so large and is in such ideal shape that it can create its own environemt and sustain itself, doesn't need outer bands and stuff

Ever seen hurricanes with a big eye, looking like a buzzsaw, and instead of going through replacement cycles it just stays that freakishly large and dangerous?

That's annular.

Typically seen as a "large donut" on visible. Few feeder bands and such. She has grown so powerful that it will sustain itself, and little will weaken her. Have a look on satellite at Katrina. Thats annular. Floyd in 99, Gilbert, some say Andrew in 92.

So, this thing probably isn't going to do that last minute weakening bit like other gulf coast storms do, eh?

I believe Gilbert was an example of an annular hurricane. Gilbert was forcasted to move NW once in the GOM but because he was so large and powerfull never made the turn.
